[INTRO] X-ing over to a new land!

[WHERE: The entrance of Gilterrace Town.

X is taking a step forward only to stop. There's a dumbfounded look on his face as he's very obviously examining his surroundings. Slowly but surely his expression is becoming less and less expressive. While he doesn't say the question that's weighing his mind, he can be seen through out the town. His steps are on the quick side, as if looking for something or someone.]

[WHEN: Afternoon

X can be found on route 1--with a Pokedex in hand. There's an group of Ulternian Sunkerns frolicking about, minding their own business. X here just seemed absolutely baffled as his Pokedex not only recognize the Pokemon before him--but they were registering as a normal Sunkern.

Why was that...?

He seemed to be engrossed with his Pokedex, even with a Kangaskhan sitting directly behind him.]

[WHY: was he here?

Stubbornly refusing to return to town, X is setting up camp over at the Shrouded Woods. By setting camp it's more like he's found a hollow tree trunk and sitting there, not moving. He's tired, and he's given up on walking. Surely no one would come to look for him inside a tree trunk. No one suspicious, anyway.]

(ooc: come pester X from PokeSpe! He's a little bit before the epilogue but he shouldn't be as anti-social as he was near the start of his journey--)

Fascinating, aren't they?

[Alice only knows one Calemface from home, and he's blond, but she's got enough experience with lookalikes that she looks him over and ponders whether this is actually Calem or someone new. That aside, she turns back to the Sunkern.]

Ultern is full of regional forms like that, but these are the least recognizable I've seen outside of a randomizer.

[He takes a moment to regard Alice from over his Pokedex. Why was she approaching him? Was she just genuinely curious about the odd looking Sunkern? He gave a brief glance to his Kangashkan (Kanga), and back to Alice.

"Regional forms". That was new, along with "Ultern". He really wasn't in Kalos?]

This place...where are we, exactly?

[All the while the Sunkerns are stretching their little sprouts as if trying to catch all of the sunlight beaming down on them.]

Ultern! It's a region subject to a strange phenomenon in which people and Pokémon alike are pulled through the stream from different points in spacetime. Parallel counterparts are common, as is coming upon scenarios you've never seen. The locals are used to strangers appearing, and a lot of them have been kind and accommodating. And the Pokémon population is very interesting to study! The Sunkern here, for example. Their behaviour is familiar even if their appearance isn't. Whereas the Dunsparce here... Well, they're significantly more aggressive.

Ul...tern?

[It didn't sound familiar in the least. Yet the trainer in front of him was being helpful. Was she someone he could trust? To do so he'd have to put his foot forward (figuratively). At least a tiny bit.]

What do you mean by pulled through a stream? Like by a Pokemon?

[It sounded like something a Legendary Pokemon could do. They were powerful, and full of mysteries.

Putting the Pokedex away, as it refused to acknowledge the current peculiar appearance of the Sunkerns. Said Sunkerns seemed to be swaying along with the gentle breeze.]

It's possible. We don't know. I haven't found anything to prove it one way or another, but we have had a rash of incidents as of late where mysterious and powerful Pokémon have appeared for some purpose and then gone back to where they came from! I do know it's not the Voices, if you've got that legend where you're from. Or at least I haven't seen any sign of them, and they're hard to miss.

[Mysterious and Powerful Pokemon showing up out of the blue? That almost sounded like Team Flare was behind the incident. He's frowning to himself while watching a Sunkern tripping, and rolling over. Yet it didn't seem to mind too much that it had fell as it's sprout is upright, and reaching for the sun still.]

I don't think I've heard of any legends about any voices. All I know are the ones about Xerneas and Yveltal. Two Pokemon that "give" and "take"... but that's about it.

[Half true. The less Alice knew, the better anyway. Especially if Team Flare was out there, lurking somewhere.

He's lowering his Pokedex now to watch Kanga (his Kangashkan) moving to help up the Sunkern that's fallen down. There, there!]

Oh, we have those, too! Though I think our legend might be a little different from yours, given the patterns that -- oh! [She smiles.] Your Pokémon seem very nice. You must work well together. Do you battle?

"Patterns"?

[X couldn't help but narrow his eyes when Alice had cut away from what she was saying. He was trying to discern whether or not she was purposefully keeping information away from him. His expression remained neutral as he kept his eyes on Alice.

Kanga however smiled at the little Sunkern, completely at ease.

Judging by how at ease Kanga was, maybe he was being too on guard? Plus based on Alice's appearance she seemed around his age...]

We battle from time to time. Why do you ask? Are you interested in a battle?

Only if you want to! I'm more interested in research, but I'd never say no to one. [She blinks.] Usually people don't ask me to get back to the multiversal physics talk. It would appear that the various dimensions drawn in by this archipelago and from which visitors are sampled can be characterized with constants and variables. For instance, Pokémon exist in all of them, but sometimes they're different from world to world, or what the scientific community knows about them is. Another is that you'll find a lot of people with similar names, backgrounds, and/or appearances. For instance, you look a good deal like my friend Calem. Have you met?

[So she was more of a researcher than a battler. Her question must be because she was simply curious about Kanga and her child. He's quiet while taking in Alice's lengthy explanation. His expression doesn't change so it would be hard to tell whether he was understanding any word she was saying to him.

Of course he's listening, and while they were hard to believe just looking into Alice's face he couldn't feel like she was trying to deceive him. And that name she gave, Calem was it? He hasn't met anyone by that name and if they looked like him did that mean it was Essentia? Or was it genuinely someone who shared the same appearance as him?

There was no way to tell. It would be concerning if this "Calem" was deceiving Alice for whatever knowledge she may have...]

[Placing his hand on the brim of his hat, X took a moment to adjust his cap. There's a clear frown on his face as he shook his head.]

Don't think I've met. If you say that there's plenty of others like him does that mean you've met anyone who looked like you?

I have! Though it usually wasn't here, and there's often what you might refer to as a tag to differentiate two people who look the same and fill the same role. For instance, there's a woman here I met once who looks like an older version of me, but general physical age indicators would make it easy to tell who's who once you're keeping them in mind. And there was a girl I knew back in the void, Athena, but she wore a gas mask and she was a -- if you're unfamiliar with Moemon, the occasional timeline sometimes has people who look like a hybrid between Pokémon and humans. That's a fairly uncommon phenomenon, though, and I certainly haven't seen any here yet. Oh, and then there was Azure, but her hair is blue, and Xena's was blue and red, but usually if there's an Alice she's not there and Red is -- regardless! I've seen a good number of parallel timelines and similar situations. Usually with a long story to go with it.

[He thought he was understanding but now his mind is like space cat dot png]

So essentially you're saying you've seen a lot to really give a simple answer.

[IS THIS THE FUTURE YOU RESEARCHERS WANT???

X doesn't know but that was A Lot to take in. Although maybe his question was too broad of one to give to begin with-]

Can you just tell me more about this place, in general?

It usually works out like this... [Alice adjusts her glasses and shrugs off the confusion.] Of course! Here on Ohritori Island, it's been relatively peaceful so far. There are a few municipalities of varying size, a cemetery, a gym, and plenty of wildlife to study, and the locals are used to strangers appearing. Are you looking for anything specific?

[Okay, that was a bit easier to take in information-wise. Still he had no idea just where Ultern was in terms of geography. Yet Alice did mention something about being pulled in...]

Is there any way to leave this place?

[He had a feeling he knew the answer but it never hurt to ask, right?]

Not that I know of. I haven't been able to call anything in to pull us out through the stream, but that doesn't mean the technology doesn't exist -- it's simply inaccessible to us at the present time.

[So whoever's in charge might be playing keep away from them, as far as X could tell. They were all brought here for a reason...whatever they were.]

So then one just has to be found, huh?

So it would seem. I'll admit it's a frustrating prospect, even if this place is very nice and fascinating besides. But whatever it is can't stay hidden forever.

[She had a good point, he thinks. Yet how would they root something, whatever it is out? Especially with no clues...?

His attention shifted to the regional Sunkerns, that had now very curiously turned their attention to both Alice and X. One of the more social ones of the group will hope forward, wiggling its leaf up to them.

Raising up from his feet, X walked closer to squat down in front of it.]

Are you here to greet us too? Nice to meet you Sunkern.

They're cute, aren't they? [She bends down as well and offers it a piece of granola bar.] I really should stock up again, it's so easy to foget to eat, you know?

[X watched as Alice pulled out a granola bar. The Sunkern let's out a happy chirp, with its leaf wiggling to show its appreciation. It'll take a small nibble of the granola.

X, took a moment to dig into his bag to pull out a candy bar he had stashed. He'll hold it out to Alice.]

Here, take this. I've got a lot, so...

Really, you mean it?

[Alice carefully takes it and smiles.]

Thank you! I'll pay you back when you need something. It's the best I can do.

It's...not a big deal.

[He looks away to hide his embarrassment.]

I just don’t like the thought of someone going hungry.

Still, it's very nice of you. I should learn to think ahead, but I get so caught up in my research that I forget other things. I'll tell you what, though, I'll get you something the next time I see you. Okay? Then neither of us has to feel bad.
