[WHERE: The entrance of Gilterrace Town.

X is taking a step forward only to stop. There's a dumbfounded look on his face as he's very obviously examining his surroundings. Slowly but surely his expression is becoming less and less expressive. While he doesn't say the question that's weighing his mind, he can be seen through out the town. His steps are on the quick side, as if looking for something or someone.]

[WHEN: Afternoon

X can be found on route 1--with a Pokedex in hand. There's an group of Ulternian Sunkerns frolicking about, minding their own business. X here just seemed absolutely baffled as his Pokedex not only recognize the Pokemon before him--but they were registering as a normal Sunkern.

Why was that...?

He seemed to be engrossed with his Pokedex, even with a Kangaskhan sitting directly behind him.]

[WHY: was he here?

Stubbornly refusing to return to town, X is setting up camp over at the Shrouded Woods. By setting camp it's more like he's found a hollow tree trunk and sitting there, not moving. He's tired, and he's given up on walking. Surely no one would come to look for him inside a tree trunk. No one suspicious, anyway.]

(ooc: come pester X from PokeSpe! He's a little bit before the epilogue but he shouldn't be as anti-social as he was near the start of his journey--)

[He blinked, staring at Alice. It still felt strange having someone not in any way involved be nice to him. He knew this place wasn't Kalos that and getting a good look at Alice--she did look close to him in age. She wasn't like some shady adult trying to gain his trust...]

[He looked away, unable to keep eye contact of any kind on Alice. He couldn't help feel the same embarrassment he felt from just a second ago.]

You don't have to worry about me, really. I might be away from home but I still have my Pokemon with me.

You're right, at least we've still got our partners here. And statistically, we could do worse than a very nice place with very nice people, but it is still better if we get back.

[A nice place, with nice people but were they truly nice, deep down? He had been too scared to hang out in town full of strangers so he had ran away stumbling upon the Sunkerns... they were rather friendly.

In fact as he turned to look in their direction they were all much closer chirping happily to them. He sighed, to hold a hand out for one of the Sunkerns to curiously inspect with its leaf.]

It would be nice to find a way back...but for now we just need to figure out what to do, huh?

You're right about that one. I've been studying the area, but I haven't come to any conclusions or clues yet. Aside from the local legends about Ho-Oh and its counterpart Shi-Sah, that is.

Ho-Oh...that sounds familiar.

[He wasn't too used to Pokemon outside of Kalos, but that name at least rang a bell. X thought of pulling out his Pokedex but he knew there wouldn't be any information on a Pokemon he hasn't seen.]

But I haven't heard of Shi-Sah before. What do you know about those two? Maybe there might be a hint on why we're here.

I know art of them is common in the towns, especially those little protective statues on people's roofs! But all I've heard so far is that Shi-Sah brings good luck and Ho-Oh wards away evil. At least that's what the legends say, anyway. They don't seem to have the fossil pantheon here like I'm used to at home, so all we've got to go on is what the locals say.

[Art and statues...? He doesn't recall there being anything of the sort for Xerneas and Yveltal back home. Just tales, and that's it.]

For the people to revere the two this much... then they might have a clue on how to leave Ultern.

[Of course he has no proof of that. He just couldn't help but suspect some link between the two legendary and their situation.]

It's a possibility. I'd love to know more, of course. I'm sure as things go on, we'll find more out! That's why I'm planning to traverse the area -- well, that and the Gym challenge does sound like fun. Though it's still secondary to finding the way out and studying the islands.

I see... that makes sense. I'll look around for clues myself.

[He paused staring at Alice.]

...gym challenge? They have gyms here too?

Right! There's one right over in Turnbloom. Do you do competitive battling, then?

Oh...Turnbloom, that's the name of the town right before the route isn't it? I haven't been there yet...

[He vaguely recalled hearing one of the people in Gilterrace mention the town name. X just hadn't gotten the courage to explore there yet.]

No, I'm not... I haven't challenged a gym before. Have you?

A long time ago. I haven't exactly tried it in recent years -- my usual focus is studying the world around me instead. What do you like to do?

[What did he like to do? In the past he would have confidently told anyone it was Pokemon Battles... he was still confident in his and his Pokemon's abilities, but challenging a gym was a different story.]

Getting to know Pokemon better, and battling together. The more we understand each other, the easier it is for us when we battle.

It sounds like you know a lot about it. So I'm sure you can at least try! It's a good test of your skills, and besides, each league does things a little differently, so it's a good way to learn about the culture, I think.

[The way Alice presented it did pique his interest. Yet...]

I think I want to get used to this place more before I decide on what to do. At the very least it looks like I still have a lot more to learn about Pokemon, here.

That's true enough. I've been studying this place since I got here, and there's always more and more to see.

I'm not exactly sure what I want to learn about here...but I guess I can learn more about the Pokemon.

[Plus the Sunkern who now wandered off to play amongst themselves did catch his eyes again.]

There has to be more regional variants like them around, right?

Definitely! Though you might want to watch out for the Dunsparce. The local variety are extremely aggressive, they'll chase you all day if they want.

[He's unable to hide a look of surprise at the mention of Dunsparce.]

They're that different?

They are. Especially when you get near their nests.

So they're protective of their living space...

[He could relate to that, really.]

I'll be sure to be more aware of my surroundings.
