mysterious places, perfect harmony

[Someplace in Turnbloom City is a wandering Yamask equipped with a small leather backpack and gold bracers. His arms are curled, hands planted firmly in the straps of his backpack as he takes in the sights and sounds of this new place. He can be spotted at several different locations.]

[A] Stardust Beach

[Chenzira's closely inspecting the sand. He's experienced the sands of Goldenrod Bay and the Sevii Islands but never has he seen anything like this! He grabs a handful and holds it close to get a better look at it. He should bring some back for his trainer...!]

[B] Turnbloom Market

[With a tiny coin purse in hand, the Yamask mutters a "oou-sigh" to one of the shop owners and points to a peach. When the owner tells him the price, Chen looks down at his fingers, humming in thought. He should have enough but...

He looks up to the person next to him, waving a hand to get their attention.]

Suu... 'Guuse me...

[It appears he's forgotten how much his coin translates to and needs help counting.]

[C] Rainbow Plaza

[Chenzira's staring up at the Ferris Wheel, mouth agape. It's so big...! He's seen tall buildings before but never a moving one! And there's people inside. Wow! Plus there's so many different games to play. He wishes his trainer was here so he could experience this all with him...

Obviously pokémon by themselves probably aren't allowed to ride the ferris alone. Not that he'd want to anyways. So instead he just floats there awkwardly, hoping maybe someone will come to his aide and take him on the ferris wheel with them - or play some of the other games with him.]

[ooc: Chenzira here is capable of some human speech but it's rather limited. He has trouble with pronouncing hard consonant though. If your character is capable of understanding pokémon though he's perfectly understandable outside of being mumbly.]

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

This is Ohritori Island, in the Ultern region. It's a nice place, but it's also a hub of space-time phenomena where people are sent through the stream -- drifted, that is -- and essentially trapped here. The people have been very welcoming and supportive, though, which is a plus. And you're likely to find people who look familiar and have oddly similar life experiences, but that's the nature of alternate timelines at work.

[Chen just stares for a good minute or two as that was... a lot to take in. It sounds... similar to what happened with his trainer? So he kind of understands.

He crosses his arms and taps a finger against his cheek.]

Nod... pard of Johdo?

[She shakes her head.] We're not in Johto, no. The climate's far too warm and humid, especially this time of year. Is that where you came from?

[He doesn't know what to call the region he's from, having only heard his trainer refer to Johto, Kanto, and Sevii. He nods his head in answer to her question though as it was New Bark Town that he had awoken in.]

Yes... New Barg. Mair-eg in... Sebii now.

[He holds out his arms to emulate something of a large size, managing a small smile.]

He has big... boad as... home!

Oh, that sounds nice! He must be your friend, right? Did he come with you, or is it just you?

Mn! Bes friend and... dh... tuh... tu-rainer.

[He smiles sadly.]

Jus me... Wan him do see... Ohriidori someday. From deserd. Sandy. He lie-gh.

[Chen gives a little nod of assurance, mostly to himself, which helps his smile become more genuine. Yes, Marik would like this place very much.]

I hope so! Don't worry, it's very nice even if we are stuck here. Though I guess that's not helping not worry, is it? How about this? This is far from the first strange spacetime incident I've dealt with, and even if they do take some time to work out, there hasn't been one that hasn't been solved eventually. And until then, it's safe here, too!

[The Yamask still appreciates Alice trying to help. He takes another small bite of his pecha berry as he sorts through his thoughts. Since he's got a knowledge human here with him, he might as well ask what questions he can.]

Thas good... Safe is good... Ah... Do... phone worgh?

They work here, at least. I don't believe there's been any headway made with regard to contacting the outside, aside from the PC -- the Pokémon Storage System still works, and it does appear to be safe from the testimonials I've gathered. Of course, in my experience, the PC breaks all kinds of rules, so the laws of space and time can't be that far off.

Hmm...

[Chen knows Marik tries not to keep pokémon in his PC. He nibbles a bit more at his berry as he thinks. Worse comes to worse, he could hop in there and go back to him that way...? If it works. He has a little basic flip phone on him just in case but will that work? As long as he can stay in contact with his trainer, he'll be okay mentally.]

... No Deem Rogh-Ged here?

[She pauses and thinks.] I did see someone once or twice who might've been a Rocket. Have you had trouble with those guys before? It makes sense, they ran the general Kanto-Johto area for years.

No... bud... haff heard of them.

[His trainer used to run an organization very similar so Chen knows what signs to look out for.]

Mair-eg tode me... be carefol. Bud if... only few... Is safe?

So far it has been.

[She smiles and adjusts her hat.]

I haven't seen anything really dangerous happening yet, and I think there are a few of us who are strong enough to protect the rest if it did. My partners definitely are! And I'll tell you right now, Hosts have a tendency to find trouble. Right now, I've mostly only found interesting things to study.

[Chenzira finishes his berry and dusts off his hands politely then returns his attention to Alice. He smiles, happy to hear that her team is here with her.]

Mn... Hose-d?

[He's excited to hear this place hasn't been dangerous and there's plenty to study and explore. Maybe some trainers won't mind if he tags along on their adventures...]

Yes! Well, technically I'm not actively one right now, but they say once a host of the Voices, always a host of the Voices. And sometimes they do come back to you when you least expect it. Oh, I probably should have asked if you've heard of them first, shouldn't I have? It's not a common thing -- scenarios repeat, of course, but in the same world, region, and time period there might be only one or two -- and particularly not across the various dimensions and timelines represented among the drifted population. Oh, before we get into that, I do need to establish that we aren't all from the same version of the universe. We've all got the same baseline, of course, but if you're familiar at all with multidimensional theory, it's the same principle. Timelines diverge when something different happens in one and not the other, and there are technological and natural influences that can actively cause a split as well...

[sorry for the technobabble dump, she'll just keep going]

[Chenzira understands a decent amount of things. Human speech, battling, being a ghost, playing card games, and driving a yacht to name a few.

Multidimensional stuff goes in one ear and out the other mostly. He has a vague understanding that you can travel to different times and places but multiverses isn't something Marik's touched on much.

And so he just frowns and tilts his head, visibly confused by what she's trying to explain to him.]

Muldi...dim... mmph...

And that's -- oh! Sorry. Scientific theory does tend to get away with me sometimes. I know you were asking about the Voices, but explaining that they go to other worlds is predicated on the notion that other worlds exist and that you can go to them, and that that's what happened here. Does that make sense?

[The Yamask hums in thought, going over Alice's words in his mind to try and make sense of them.

After a few moments he looks up and nods.]

Yes. Gine-dof? Thingh... so...

You... drabel worlds willing... lee?

Well, I have in the past! Not here, though, I drifted here just like you. But the Voices are something different from me. It might be a bit complicated to explain the whole story, but they're something I have experience with. That's all.

[The voices thing doesn't quite make sense to him but everything else finally clicks with him.]

So... special... abilidy, yes?

Special ability... hmm. I wouldn't say I have any special ability.

[Not like the glitched, or for that matter, the glitchmancers. Or wherever Ao falls under that. Not like the Moemon, either, though that certainly would be useful. She did choose and free the Dome, and not just anyone could say they'd been their current age for as long as she has. But is that an ability?]

The Voices are a chaotic mob of incorporeal beings from another plane. They're a legend where I come from. And Hosts are people who carried the Voices once and are still a little touched by them. It doesn't really give you any special abilities. We just all ended up working to try and help, and on more than one occasion that's involved travelling across timelines. Does that make more sense?

[Chenzira looks down for a minute, processing her words again. That sounds very familiar to something Marik told him about... Making a comparison to that helps things click a bit better.

It's still a lot to take in but if he can at least understand some of it, that's better than nothing.]

Uhm... Your world haff pogey-mon? Or you s... s'dard tu-rain here?

[She thinks for a moment to puzzle out what he's saying, and then nods. She's seen worlds without, so the concept isn't completely new, but...]

Yes, my home has Pokémon. That's one thing that hasn't changed, no matter what else about it has over time. I don't think there's anybody here who doesn't know Pokémon -- that, at least, seems to be a constant in contrast to all the variables that do exist between timelines that this place pulls from.

Nod... otherworlder then.

[The term used for people like Marik, who come from different worlds typically without pokémon. Alice definitely isn't scripted like the town folks, gym leaders, and trainers are though... Hmm.]

How long... you been drainer?

[Trying to pronounce the T in trainer was getting difficult for him.]

...A long time. It's difficult to measure relative time in my situation, but I've been a trainer since I was 11.

[And she looks about 14, but who knows.]

How long have you been with your friend Marik? If I'm pronouncing it right.
