[If you've tuned in to the radio before noon, you may have heard this handsome, soothing voice before, talking about local Pokemon, notifying listeners of Pokemon swarms. Today, too, if you happen to be listening to the favorite radio channel of Chura Islands, you can hear him.]

-You're listening to Chura Radio, and this is Ken, coming to you live with Ken's Pokemon Talk. How's everyone doing today? It's a pretty steamy day, so I bet you're all holed up inside with the AC turned on, or gone out to swim. Make sure you're all drinking water!

Today, we're not just talking about Pokemon, we're talking about your Pokemon. The theme is... [drumroll] ...a destined encounter with a Pokemon! A Pokemon that ended up being your best friend, a meeting that felt like destiny, or a meeting that you couldn't have known would end up that important! Call in now and tell us a story about your fateful Pokemon encounter, whether it's a Pokemon you caught or not!

-And we've got our next caller! Hi there, what's your name?

B. IN PERSON: Port Opportune

[In the afternoon, after the radio show's long over, you can see a young man in Ulternian-style clothes sitting at the pier, fanning himself with a paper fan, looking like he's about melting.]

It's too hoooot.... I want to eat shaved ice... But I don't wanna moooove...

[Then he notices somebody's looking at him, and straightens his back and gives a bright smile.]

Hi there! Hot day, huh?

((ooc: intro post, but IC he's drifted to Ultern and has been living in Chura Islands for a while! This is Ken, the protagonist's brother from the early demo version of Gold/Silver, who became a DJ in a romhack based on that demo! Long story short, he's a locally famous DJ in Ultern now! Call in to his radio show or meet him in person!))

[It's a young girl's voice who answers!] Um, hi! Well, it's my first time being on radio, so sorry if it isn't very good, but... I met a Pokemon that looked like a Pokemon... kind of like a cute cat, with very short hair and beautiful, shiny purple eyes... but he talked like a person!

Um, the scientists said we were communicating using telepathy, though...

Oh! Sorry, I forgot. I'm Fuji Ai, by the way. I'm eight years old! Kind of...

[Ken listens with a big smile, not that it's obvious to the listeners.]

Don't worry about it! Hi, Ai! It's wonderful to get a call from a sweet kid like you, and I'm sure all the listeners agree.

A Pokemon that looked like a cat, with purple eyes, short hair and talked with telepathy? Now that's interesting! He sounds beautiful.

Do you remember what that Pokemon was called, or should I use my [uses a funny "cool" voice] super Pokemon knowledge skills to guess what he was? Because I could make a few guesses based on that description!

[She already knew his name, of course, but Ken had such a fun and engaging way of speaking, Ai wanted to hear his guesses first!]

Umm, okay! Tell me what you think.

[She had to hold back a giggle, because she felt like she was playing a trick on poor Ken!]

A sweet little girl voice, like what an Eevee might sound like if she spoke human talk, is on the line.

"Hi," she says. "Have you ever had someone call in named Radley? Or maybe he'll call today! He would have a wonderful story to share. I'm Evie and I'm looking for him!"

"Huh? Ah, no," Ken replies, a bit thrown off, but does his best to regain composure and work with this. "I'm sorry, Evie," he says gently. "If Radley has a wonderful story, then he'll have to call himself. But do you have a story of your own encounter with a Pokemon to tell?"

He has no idea he's talking to an Eevee, of course.

"I hope he will!" she says innocently. "I hope he hears me and calls in. I'm his wonderful story! I'm his Eevee!"

She pauses, thinking. "I've met a lot of wonderful Pokemon.... I think the most special encounter was when I met Treeko and Sentret and Clefairy and Squirtle and we all went to play in the meadow where we met Radley!"

[Mina, situated on the other side of the pier, had been utterly engrossed in her sketching for the last half hour or so, but Ken’s clearly beleaguered cries manage to catch her attention just enough to get her to look up. She smiles.]

Sure is. But bein out here by the water on a hot day like today feels like home.

Like home? Oh, are you a drifter? Where from?

[He relaxes somewhat, figuring she probably isn't a regular radio listener. No need to do the smile he gives fans!]

[Even if she was (which she might be, who knows! Mina’s schedule is totally freeform) she would much rather he be relaxed with her, so it works out.]

Yup. I’m from Alola. I lived on Poni Island, in a little village of houseboats. I travelled a lot, though, so being back right by the ocean always feels nostalgic.

What about you? Where are you from?

Hey. Not lookin' so good there, are ya?

[Buson, amused, walking over and leaning over, partly to look down at Ken, partly to block the sun. Not in a sailor suit, today! He's not on duty.]

... ever thought'a catching a Water or Ice type Pokemon? Bet they'd help keep you cool!

Buson! Hey there!

[Ken's smile brightens up, and he gives a lazy wave.]

Ah, I've got my hands full taking care of the Pokemon I do have... But maybe I could just catch and release some wild Pokemon! Only thing is, on Chura Islands you have to be careful where you catch Pokemon, since so much of it's a nature preserve...

[He sighs, leaning back, basking in Buson's shade. Maybe he could just lie down for a bit...]

[A call comes in to the station, during the musical break shortly after a certain on-air call. The voice on the other end is foreign-sounding, sharp and a little mocking.]

What’s the matter? Afraid of Team Rocket?

[Well, at least it comes in during the musical break, and not on air. Ken pauses briefly, then adds the number to a list while plastering on a customer service smile.]

Thank you for your call, ma'am! We'll be glad to hear from you again when you have a phonecall related to the radio program. Hope you keep listening!

[And he hangs up, then sighs wearily, hoping this won't lead to anything bigger. Sorry, Mayday, but that number is now blocked for the duration of the show! Ken has zero patience for Team Rocket.]

[ A! ...sorry Ken, you've got an over-enthusiastic but confused time-traveller... ]

[Why is this guy shouting...? Just to make matters worse, it sounds like he's still got the radio on in the background. There's a very annoying echo.]

I have never used a telephone before but I heard your words on the electric box and I would like to talk about my Togekiss! Can you hear me? Oh...! I think I can hear myself! On the box! Goodness, is that what I sound like!?

[Ken winces at the volume. Oh, this is bad for radio. Still, he gives a good-natured chuckle.]

Yes, sir! Ah, you can talk quieter, your voice carries fine. First time listening to the radio too, huh? Thanks for choosing Chura Radio!

Now, could you say your name and tell us more about your Togekiss?

[ A: throwing Bashou in here as well :) *Jaws theme plays in the background* ]

[That's it for now. This caller doesn't sound very chatty. His tone is polite, maybe even too formal, but quiet and unemotive. The fact that he might be live on air doesn't seem to impress or worry him...]

[Ken is unbothered by the lack of chattiness! He's a pro after all, he can carry a conversation.]

[Sorry, bit of a misstep, Lillie's never been on radio before, but she continues cheerfully, with grace.]

My name is Lillie. Thank you for having me.

[A fox-like "kon!" bark can be heard, as well.] Snowy says hello, as well.

[Ken's used to working around missteps, so he's unbothered!]

So, which Pokemon are you going to talk to us about? I sure hope it's Snowy!

[Here's Juliana's voice, calling via her Rotom Phone.]

¡Hola! I'm Juliana from the Paldea region. Also, student of Uva Academy.

As for my story, I did have a strange, but awesome encounter. A dragon Pokemon that looked like a motorcycle who loves sandwiches!

[In the background, you hear a happy roar.]

Agias!

And there it is!

A dragon Pokemon that looks like a motorcycle? That sure sounds like... a Cyclizar! A Pokemon that's been used for transport in the Paldea Region for thousands of years, though I haven't heard anything about them having a fondness for sandwiches! How about it, did I guess right?

[The man returns Ken's look for a moment, then thoughtfully up at the sky.]

Yes! It's 87 degrees!

[He no longer has his lab coat, and has changed into a short-sleeved Ulternian shirt, but he is also inexplicably wearing full-length pants? Seems totally comfortable though! He is having a normal conversation about the weather!]

What?! Really? No way it's that hot!

[Ken pauses for a moment, his shock receding as he realizes...]

Oh, wait, you mean 87 degrees Fahrenheit or something, not Celsius. Right?

[He gives a little embarrassed laugh. Having grown up in the Nihon region, he's only used to Celsius.]

B!

[The Yamask blinks, concerned about the fact that this man is apparently very hot from the heat. His trainer occasionally complains about that from time to time despite also bragging that he's from the desert. Clearly an enigma.

He looks through his little coin purse and slowly counts out the current amount of pokedollars. Shaved ice would be nice so... Chen holds up the coin purse, points to Ken, then himself, then the direction the ice cream stand is in. And nods to answer his question.

He can speak but has chosen not to for the time being. Chenzira doesn't want to start him, as seeing a Yamask with golden arm bands and a backpack might already be a bit odd.]

[Oh, wow. That's a Yamask, staring at Ken. Taken by surprise, he stares and watches as the Pokemon counts out coins. That's not something he's seen from a Pokemon before... but considering what Yamask are, maybe human-like behavior would be exactly what he should expect from them.]

Oh, uh... You want me to buy you shaved ice? [He glances at the ice cream stand.] Or ice cream, maybe? Well, you can just point at what you want! Let's go together!

[He gets up to his feet and heads towards the ice cream stand, checking to see if the Yamask is following.]
