Intro post
A. RADIO: Anywhere in Ohritori or Chura
[If you've tuned in to the radio before noon, you may have heard this handsome, soothing voice before, talking about local Pokemon, notifying listeners of Pokemon swarms. Today, too, if you happen to be listening to the favorite radio channel of Chura Islands, you can hear him.]
-You're listening to Chura Radio, and this is Ken, coming to you live with Ken's Pokemon Talk. How's everyone doing today? It's a pretty steamy day, so I bet you're all holed up inside with the AC turned on, or gone out to swim. Make sure you're all drinking water!
Today, we're not just talking about Pokemon, we're talking about your Pokemon. The theme is... [drumroll] ...a destined encounter with a Pokemon! A Pokemon that ended up being your best friend, a meeting that felt like destiny, or a meeting that you couldn't have known would end up that important! Call in now and tell us a story about your fateful Pokemon encounter, whether it's a Pokemon you caught or not!
-And we've got our next caller! Hi there, what's your name?
B. IN PERSON: Port Opportune
[In the afternoon, after the radio show's long over, you can see a young man in Ulternian-style clothes sitting at the pier, fanning himself with a paper fan, looking like he's about melting.]
It's too hoooot.... I want to eat shaved ice... But I don't wanna moooove...
[Then he notices somebody's looking at him, and straightens his back and gives a bright smile.]
Hi there! Hot day, huh?
((ooc: intro post, but IC he's drifted to Ultern and has been living in Chura Islands for a while! This is Ken, the protagonist's brother from the early demo version of Gold/Silver, who became a DJ in a romhack based on that demo! Long story short, he's a locally famous DJ in Ultern now! Call in to his radio show or meet him in person!))

They not allow "other-worlders" to use vehicles. Dunno why...
[It's essentially the same. Which is what made Chen's trainer so passionate about getting a stand in for motorcycles since he can't have one. Cyclizar handle better anyways, or so he says.
The Yamask looks over at the two and watches them.]
Maybe different for you? Maybe... fake battles work instead? Like... We fight but I don't attack back... so they don't get hurt.
1/2
[What in the world? That sentence packed so much meaning. First of all, Chen's trainer was a drifter in the world they were in? And, more importantly, that world treats drifters as basically second-class citizens, not letting them have basic conveniences everyone else is allowed? Horrible. Ken can't even imagine it.
...But he shouldn't be yelling about it. Ken takes a breath and calms down.]
Ah, I mean, that sounds awful. The world you came from sounds like it was rough for drifters...
no subject
That's kind of you to offer, but... it's probably not what's best for them. The goal is to help them gain confidence and be less shy around strangers, not to make them strong... I don't think a fake battle would help with that.
...Maybe you should ask them what they'd want to do, after all.
[If it's something Ken can't do, he'll just deal with it, for their sake!]

But Ken's thoughts aren't wrong.Things would be too easy if everyone could use vehicles. The natives barely even use vehicles as well but. Uh. Marik is very opinionated. So Chen's simply parroting what he's been told. The Yamask nods but offers a small smile.]
Is not so bad. Is weird but... keeps him... ah... motivated.
[Chen hums. Voicing his thoughts in the human language is tough. Obviously there's more to it than just battling and training but with things working differently here, it's confusing for him.]
Mnn. Is fine. Battle is not everything... Being... part of team, doing things togedder. That helped me feel confident. 'Cause I could... protect Marik.
Some pokémon just more shy though. I am... happy to be friends with them. If they like.
[Chen shifts to float up a bit.]
You sure you want me to ask...?
no subject
[Maybe it doesn't seem too bad to Chen, since he can't use vehicles anyway... But Ken can't help but think it's a sign that there's other things drifters are forbidden from doing, too.]
Yeah... I think I should probably go on walks with them more often, and battle a little bit more often.
It's fine. [Ken turns to his Pokemon.] You guys won't be scared away, right?
(Nuh-uh!) [Flambear shakes his head bravely. Ledyba says nothing, just flies down and lands on Ken's head, staring at Chen.]

Or if his player would decide on a better AU.He gives Ken a reassuring smile.]Is okay. Really. I feel better riding on 'nother pokémon... rather than vehicle.
[Chenzira looks to Flambear then Ledyba. While he's mostly addressing Flambear as he seems more receptive, the offer still goes to both of them.]
(We can try... going for a walk... to see if you feel stronger afterwards...?)
no subject
[But maybe it's better not to dwell on things one can't change. It's a whole different world, one Ken can't access, so what's the point in telling Chen the bad things about it if he's fine with them?]
[Flambear just looks at Chen, puzzled. It's Ledyba who replies, surprisingly.]
(Why? I'm already strong.)
[He's not, he's under level ten.]
no subject
[Probably the best way to go about it. Chen understands a decent amount but there's certain human social things that don't click with him.
He is surprised Ledyba's the one to respond. Hmm. How to handle this...]
(You are happy then...?)
[It's not meant as an insult. He genuinely wants to know.]
