[Intro] A Kalosian Professor Appears!

[Drifted into Route 1]

[Being drifted into the Ultern Region seems to be a confusing phenomenon. One moment, Professor Sycamore was in his lab. Then the next thing he knew, he was at the beach standing in front of the sea just as he left to get some coffee at a nearby café. And that's after he noticed that he still has his lab coat on. Well, this isn't the weirdest thing he ever encounters in his life. If anything, finding out where he was transported is the least of his worries.]

[Turnbloom City]

[For some dumb luck reason, Professor Sycamore manages to find his way in Turnbloom City. While he was still wandering around to check out the sites of the city, it doesn't mean he doesn't have time to introduce himself to the locals and other Drifters.]

Why hello! I mean, Ulsai! I was hoping you might recommend me some cafes available here in Turnbloom.

[Otherwise, if you like, you can approach him while he looks around the city.]

[X was following his newly befriended Pokemon, Coiffe the Quaxly trying to understand it better. Plus, he heard Route 1 there was a Pokemon Professor who could help him. While the idea of meeting the man had the boy not enthused he wanted to know more about Coiffe.

However the first Pokemon Professor X spotted wasn't the one he had in mind. He froze staring at the very familiar sight of Sycamore--which caused him to immediately whip around seemingly searching for something around them first. Realizing it was just Sycamore did X feel disappointment weigh inside himself.

He sighed, half tempted to just turn away and leave the man but...even still... he kept thinking about Trevor. Just how much Trevor adored the man and-]

Pooomp!

[Coiffe's cry broke X out from his thoughts as he looked up to really get a better look at Sycamore, from his rolled up sleeves to a familiar sight of the Mega Ring.]

What...? That ring... you have one too?

[Being drifted into another region seems very surreal for Professor Sycamore. Yet despite this, he remained calm under pressure despite he might be miles away from Kalos.

Of course, it didn't take long for his worries to disappear to see not only a Pokemon he had never seen before back in Kalos, but a young man with a familiar ring bracelet on his wrist asking him about his own.]

Do you mean my Key Stone?

[He shows the said gem that was attached to his watch to the young man.]

This is actually my old watch converted to a special accessory for the Key Stone I like to call a Mega Watch. Though normally, I used it for my research.

[Sycamore's research... he honestly had no interest in whatever it was he was studying. That was more what Trevor had been into. That and he couldn't bring himself to trust the man, and how he had unintentionally hurt his friend. Yet the man standing before him, while similar...

Something about him was different. Plus, the lack of recognition on Sycamore's part was far more telling to X. He'll nod to Sycamore upon his explanation.]

...right, sorry. I've heard about you before from a friend of mine. You're Professor Sycamore, correct?

[Sycamore nods to his question.]

Why yes, I am. Are you from the Kalos region?

Yes, I am. My friend is into studying Pokemon so...

[He didn't need to go into specific details with this man. Different or not, he shouldn't divulge too much personal information about Trevor. Instead he's taking a glance to the Mega Watch on Sycamore's wrist there.]

...if you use that Key Stone for your research, does that mean you're able to Mega Evolve a Pokemon?

[Sycamore nods with a smile.]

Why yes. In fact, I have her and her Mega Stone right now.

[He pulls out a Poke Ball from his lab coat and tosses it out.]

Come on out, Garchomp!

[The ball opens and releases a purple shark dragon as she roars quietly to her trainer.]

This is Garchomp. She is not only the lab's research subject, but she is a friend of mine.

[X found himself staring when Sycamore called out Garchomp. Having battled with Sycamore once before, it made X wonder whether the Sycamore he knew had such an ace back home.

A thought he quickly wiped away, remembering not once had the Professor used any Mega Evolution or shown any Pokemon that had been fully evolved at any point. Even Salamè had been a Charmander the whole time...]

[This man was different, but how deep did it run? He didn't know, and he was afraid to hold out his trust to this man who had the same name and face as someone who had hurt Trevor (intentionally or not, it didn't matter). X dropped his gaze to the sandy ground beneath their feet. Coiffe noting X's demeanor moved to stand in front of him while spreading his wings out defensively.]

Pomp, pomp!

[Snapping back from his thoughts, X stared wide eyed at Coiffe. What was he doing...?]

Coiffe, I'm fine.....

Pooomp!

[The Quaxly flapped its little wings, letting out a huff. Frowning, X knelt down to place a gentle hand against Coiffe's back.]

Sorry about Coiffe. I think he thought I was intimidated by your Garchomp.

[Sycamore as he gingerly strokes the Quaxly's head so he won't intentionally ruin its hairdo.]

There's nothing to be scared of, Coiffe. Despite her appearance, she can be very gentle and kind to everyone.

[True to his words, Garchomp slowly approaches both X and his Quaxly and happily growls as she waves at them.

As for Sycamore, he didn't miss X's strange demeanor upon seeing him and his Pokemon. Something about how he averted his eyes away from the professor makes him concerned.]

Is something the matter, young man?

[Coiffe will give an appreciative flap of his wings enjoying the attention from both Sycamore and X. X on the other hand watched, from beneath the brim of his cap. His gaze moved from Coiffe, to Garchomp. He didn't have much time to really observe her when he heard Sycamore speak.

Without thinking, X immediately spoke what was on his mind.]

I'm not afraid of Garchomp--I don't trust you. That's why Coiffe reacted. He sensed how I felt.

[Well, this is new. He thought he was the same as Alain, but instead, this seems like the time he first encountered Garchomp as a Gible.]

You don't trust me? I think I understand why.

But if you're uncomfortable with telling me the real reasons, you don't have to. All I want is to see if I can help in some way. Besides, it's not good to be too distrustful of too many people.

[What did he mean he understood? Immediately that rubbed X the wrong way. It was too similar, from the way Sycamore had laughed at him. From forcing that battle to try and purposely rile X up. This time however, the Pokemon that stood before him was the (still wild) Quaxly.]

What do you mean you understand why?

[He had to keep calm, he reminded himself. This man could be different, but he wasn't about to jump the gun and hold himself out to Sycamore. It was unfortunate none of his friends were around to butt in, or talk in X's behalf.]

I can't trust you, because you're a stranger. I don't have to accept or trust everyone I meet.

[Despite X expecting the professor to challenge him to rile him up or something, Sycamore only sighs as memories flood upon seeing the still distrustful boy.]

Is it because you're too scared to hurt someone by accident? Or is it because someone tries to take advantage of you because of your Mega Ring?

[Sycamore seriously doesn't want to be blunt, but he can't make the same mistake after that incident.]

[Hurt someone? While he did have the fears of hurting someone that wasn't his worry there. No, the fear he still held of someone hurting him hung over him. Someone who could potentially do the same to his own friends, whether through his own negligence or otherwise. That's what he saw in Sycamore.

At the mention of his Mega Ring, X frowned while placing his hand over it.]

How would knowing about that help you in any way? Just because you're researching about Mega Evolution doesn't change a thing.

[It is true he's interested in his Mega Ring. But it wasn't because of his research. That Mega Accessory reminds him too much of him.]

Because I know another person who owns that very ring you're holding.

Well, "owned" should be the right verb since he was still searching for another.

[Another person? Since he said "he", Sycamore couldn't be talking about Y. He's reaching down to place a hand over his Mega Ring, frowning. Just thinking about Y again made him miss his friends.

But...who was this person Sycamore was talking about?]

Who are you talking about? Is it...

[X seemed to be debating with himself on whether to say the name out loud. Gripping down on his ring, he let out a sigh. Right, things would remain the same if he wasn't the one to take a step forward.]

It's not Lysandre, is it?

[Just a mention of his name almost break his calm composure a bit.]

No. It's my former lab assistant.

He was on a journey to help me with my Mega Evolution research. But ever since he met Lysandre, he stopped contacting me. I was surprised and happy to see him obtain his very own Key Stone and Charizardite X and saw him winning the finals at the Lumiose Conference, but...

[He started to recall the incident as his voice became a bit hostile at the man responsible.]

Team Flare happened. And it's all because of Lysandre that he manipulated my former assistant on their plans. I wish I could have done anything to stop them before the incident happened...

[He took a deep breath before continuing in his friendly tone.]

I'm sorry you almost have to see that side of me.

[X is quiet, unable to hide his surprise. He hadn't seen that look on Sycamore's face before. He saw the man look remorseful after realizing what sort of person Lysandre was but angry? That was different.

X lowered his gaze, a frown present. He wasn't cold enough to ignore anything Sycamore just told him. Especially when Sycamore took that step forward first.]

No, I get it. Lysandre took away someone important from you. There's no way anyone wouldn't get angry about that.

[X's hands balled into a fist as he thought of the fierce man in charge of Team Flare.]

Lysandre took away our home, and Team Flare chased us all over Kalos all because of the Mega Ring I carried. We never felt safe for the longest time, knowing that Team Flare could be hiding anywhere.

[Sycamore is shocked to hear X's story. He didn't hear that Lysandre and Team Flare was chasing young kids around the region all because of his Mega Ring, but that's another topic he will focus on another day.

The fact is this was much worse than what Alain and Mairin went through with Team Flare. He couldn't even temper his anger after hearing all of that.]

I-I'm so sorry to hear that, X. A young trainer like you shouldn't be targeted by those people, especially when your friends were involved.

[He sighs. Sycamore didn't expect this conversation to turn sour on both ends.]

Just how much damage Lysandre would make if Ash didn't intervene on time? I just... [He shakes his head.] I rather not know.

[Immediately at the mention of Ash's name, X lifted his gaze up. Having met that other trainer before, immediately everything seemed to click together. This was the Professor Sycamore Ash knew, and received a Pokedex from. Did he also get a Pokemon from him too?

If he had known this Professor Sycamore, would they have been able to stop Team Flare sooner? He didn't know, but...maybe he could take his own step forward to trust the Professor in front of him.]

It's okay, Professor. The fact we had people looking out for us and fought along side us is more than enough to know that Team Flare can't take our life and dreams away.

[He'll turn away, adjusting his cap. It was to mostly hide his embarrassed face. He's never spoke to Sycamore like this before. It was hard.]

It's all in the past. I should learn to let it go, and not take it out on someone I just met.

[Sycamore sighs as he nods to X. He still recalls the many people who helped out during the Lumiose City and without them including the Kalos Gym Leaders, Kalos would be doomed regardless.]

You're right. There is no point in looming over it. [He smiles in melancholy.] I think we should change the subject now. All we can do is move forward and know we still have our hopes and dreams for the future.

[He then pats Garchomp's head, who was worried since her trainer raised his voice. Patting her is telling her he's okay now.]

[The future... he had been a step away from rebuilding from what he and his friends had to leave behind. His home had been destroyed, but everyone had returned to Vaniville...]

I...don't know what to do here. Did you have any plans?

[He wasn't sure what to expect from this Sycamore, a complete stranger but from how Sycamore spoke to him, and how gentle Garchomp had been he wanted to give it a try, at least.]

I mean...we are both far away from Kalos. This place is very different.

[Good question. Sycamore hums in thought.]

Along with continuing my Mega Evolution research, I do have plans to investigate the mysteries of the Ultren region, including how we got here in the first place.

[Then an idea pops up.]

Do you have some spare time tomorrow? Maybe we should share some information that we might able to crack a code regarding our predicament.

[Continuing his research and investigating their displacement? That was a lot to take on, X thought to himself. It was a lot more than he was used to from Sycamore, really.

At the invitation he blinked, and carefully considered it.]

Okay. I don't have much going on so far so I should be free. We can meet up at the Pokemon Center nearby. I heard plenty of trainers meet there.
