EVENT: Snoring Snorlax!

Turnbloom City is quite a nice place with friendly faces and areas to explore but isn’t it about time to go beyond the city limits? Unfortunately–...

It looks like the exits are blocked by not one but many Snorlax! It seems no one can go in or out of Turnbloom. This is a serious issue as Snorlax are known for their hibernating nature. There’s no way people can get any deliveries in or out of the city either.

What is there to do?

Maybe…there’s a way to make these groups of Snorlax to move? Time to investigate!

"Yeah, of course I'm grateful," Gold says, a bit confused. "Why wouldn't I be?" Now that they're on ground level, he lets go of Nerica's legs and crouches to allow Evie to get down easier.

"(Sh-shut up! I'm not nice,)" Nerica scoffs grumpily, blushing in embarrassment. "(Don't call me nice! That's slander! I'm- I'm above such things! I only tolerate others if they worship me, as everyone should! You're the one who's nice!!)" She points at Evie aggressively. "(And cute, too!!)"

The other Pokemon in Gold's Pokeballs, meanwhile, coo and poke friendly fun at how cute Nerica's being. Nerica pointedly ignores them as Gold watches, still confused.

Evie hops down. "You didn't have to offer to help, so you're nice too!" she chirps innocently. "Thank you very much for the ride and the compliments!"

[gold_drum]

"(I am not!)" Nerica protests. "(It's only the truth! Ugh! You... you... you're the cutest Eevee I've ever seen!)" she spits out as if it was an insult, then turns to Gold. "(Put me back in there!)" she says, tapping the Pokeball.

"Oh! I know what that means," Gold says, brightening up, and takes the Pokeball. "Return, Nerica!" Nerica goes back into her Pokeball, exiting this conversation. "Oh, and thanks for the help!" Gold says, but Nerica doesn't respond.

"What was she saying anyway? Complimenting you?" Gold asks Evie.

"Yeah! She said I'm nice and cute!" Evie says.

[gold_drum]

"I guess she's right," Gold says with a shrug, while Nerica's mourning the loss of her dignity in the Pokeball. "So, are you gonna look for your friend now? What does Radley look like, anyway?" Gold figures he might as well keep an eye out, while looking for Silver.

"Yeah, I am! He's got black hair with a piece hanging in his face. He has really pretty dark green eyes! He was 11 when I saw him, though.... He's older now. Maybe he won't look the same...."

[gold_drum]

"Okay! Older than eleven, black hair, dark green eyes... I'm sure he won't look that different!" Gold makes a note of this. "I'll keep an eye out! Oh, and if you see my friend Silver, let him know I'm looking for him! He's ten years old, like me, and he's got long red hair, wears purple pants, and is usually glaring angrily!"

Gold suddenly realizes he might've not introduced himself this whole time. "Oh yeah, and I dunno if Nerica told you or not, but my name's Gold. If you see Silver, tell him Gold's looking for him!"

"Okay!" Evie says cheerfully. "Silver and Gold?! Like the Christmas song!" She wags her tail happily. That will be easy to remember.

[gold_drum]

"Yeah, like the Christmas song!" Gold says with a smile, then pauses, realizing he doesn't actually know a song like that. "What Christmas song?"

Evie starts singing it. "Silver and gold, silver and gold, everyone wishes for silver and gold ..."

[gold_drum]

"I've never heard that one before!" Gold exclaims, delighted. "I'm gonna sing it to Silver next time I see him."

It would either annoy the hell out of Silver, or cheer him up, and either way is a good result as far as Gold's concerned.

"Yeah! That would be fun! I would love to sing with Radley!" Evie says. "If he's here, maybe I can!"

[gold_drum]

"I'm sure you can!" Gold says. Though the phrasing gives him pause. Evie talks like she hasn't sung with Radley before, so... "Did you learn to talk human after being separated from him or something?"

"Yeah, it only happened after I came here," Evie says. "If Radley isn't here, and I leave, I guess I'll be back to talking so he can't understand me."

[gold_drum]

"Oh, so it's not normal where you're from," Gold muses. "I only ever met two Pokemon that could talk like a human back home, so I thought you were from a world where it's more common. But hey, maybe you can find another Pokemon that can translate for you when you go back home?"

"I wish I could keep talking!" Evie exclaims. "What are those Pokemon like in your world?"

[gold_drum]

"What are they like? Well, one of them is a pretty nice, chill guy who's caring but weird. He's also the Guardian of the Oceans or something. I don't really know the other one but they're friends." Gold pauses. "Oh yeah, I could ask." He takes out a Lure Ball. "Umbar!"

In a flash of light, Lugia, the Guardian of the Oceans, appears, and lifts a hand in greeting. "Hey there," he says in human language.

"Hi!" Evie says, tail wagging vigorously. "I'm Evie!"

[gold_drum]

"Evie the Eevee, hm? Well, I'm Umbar, the Lugia, and I'm glad to make your acquaintance," Umbar says with a smile, bowing. "You'd like to know more about Pokemon that can talk like humans, correct?"

[radleyslittleevie]

"Yeah! It looks so neat!" Evie exclaims. "I want to keep talking if I leave here."

[gold_drum]

"Hmm..." Umbar presses a finger to his chin, thoughtful. "My ability to speak developed over many, many years of learning to control my vocal cords... Though it was helped by the ability to transform into a human form and remember the feel of the language. Usually, I would say it'd be very difficult for you to learn... However!" Umbar smiles. "You've been given the ability to speak human by magic, which may give you an advantage. Though I don't know how exactly it works for you... I think if you begin to practice, focusing on how talking the language feels, in your throat and your mouth, you may be able to re-learn the skill much faster than the average Pokemon once you return home."

Umbar pauses. "Was that a bit much, all at once? I hope I didn't get too carried away."

Evie listens attentively. "I get it!" she exclaims in delight. "Practice makes perfect!"

[gold_drum]

"Good!" Umbar says. "Well then, I hope you'll be diligent in practicing. I'd love nothing more than to see you succeed in learning human language!"

Privately, a part of Umbar doubts it, but he doesn't show it on the outside. He's lived long enough to know nothing is impossible if you think it's possible. And he really hopes Evie will pull it off.

He then turns to Gold. "Well then, should we get going? We need to look for Silver, after all."

"Oh, yeah!" Gold says. "It was nice meeting you, Evie, but we gotta go!"

"I'm going to start right now, while I look for Radley!" Evie declared. "I hope you find Silver!"

[gold_drum]

"Thanks! I hope you find Radley, too!" Gold says. He and Umbar wave at Evie, before Gold recalls Umbar and heads off (and probably gets blocked by another Snorlax ten minutes later).
