COOKING MEME: Ultern Edition
No matter in the fire, water, through grass or the forest--eating is essential! Even in the sunny and peaceful island region of Ultern people are out and about getting ready for today's meal. Now, what's on the menu for today?

1. Kame Kame Attack
You want to show just how much you care through your food! Even if the person (or pokemon) is stuffed, they need to eat more! They're so thin and withering away! What better way than to tell them there's always seconds or thirds?
2. One Minute Cooking
Is it your first time in the kitchen? Do you want to improve on how to cook? Time to turn to a friend or family member for help!
3. Koffing Class Curry
WHAT EVEN IS A BAKING SHEET? Oh my Arceus what am I doing?! Who even eats goya or yago anyway?! Everything is happening so much in the kitchen! You're a hot mess (as is the kitchen!), and you can't help but panic. Who do you call in a pinch like this?!
4. My stomach's growling like crazy!
Man that smells so good... what's there to eat?! You're just so starving you're withering away. If only there was someone with a nice meal to the rescue. Or are you able to fight your stomach and go down to the closest store to grab some food?
5. Augh...my stomach…
What was in that meal just now? The person who gave it to you meant well probably, but their cooking skills are not up to snuff. Is there a polite way to tell them to stop? Or perhaps it’s beyond the point of being polite. Either way it’s time to stop before anyone else falls victim!
6. REVENGE BENTO
Revenge is a dish best served cold. Or y’know be a bento box with nothing but rice in it with nori bits spelling out “curry” while claiming you made curry for lunch. Or whatever other petty ideas that are in store to make the receiver of this meal to get your message.
7. Allez Cuisine!
Wild card! Pick and choose your prompt or come up with something new!

He's squinting unintentionally looking threatening with how sharp his eyes are while he cupped his chin in thought. He couldn't help but think of how familiar Umbar's voice was to him. Was it just his imagination?
"Hmm...are ya one of Gold's friends?"
no subject
"Are we friends? Well, if he doesn't make me eat egg shells, probably." Umbar glances at Gold pointedly, but he's still smiling.
"It's fine! Cookies are crunchy anyway," Gold says, utterly uncaring, still crushing the shells. "You won't even notice them!"
no subject
"Huh?! Wait, Gold where'd ya get the idea to put egg shells in cookies from?" That was going to be more than just a crunchy cookie! He wasn't about to have any one taking a bite out of a painful, and potentially stomach ache inducing cookie either.
no subject
Umbar decides to just leave it to Banyan to try and convince Gold not to do that. After all, Umbar's not exactly a great judge of what is and isn't edible for humans, so he wouldn't be too convincing.
no subject
"You know, there's plenty of uses for egg shells than just eating them." Banyan finally spoke up. "If ya don't mind, I could use 'em on my yard. They could use the extra nutrients, and you wouldn't have to spend all that time grinding up the shells. Whaddya say?"
no subject
Umbar exhales a slight breath of relief. "Well, I'm glad that's settled," he says. Now they can move on in the cookie-making. He takes out the baking tray and starts setting things up. He keeps glancing at Banyan, however, to see if he's guessed it yet.
no subject
He'll walk closer to reach for both the mortar and pestle. As he's doing so he heard Umbar, which had him return his attention to the man. That's right, how rude of him! They had a guest over--a friend of Gold's whose voice sounded familiar.
"Ah, that's right. How rude of me! Thanks fer looking out for Gold here. I know he's more than capable but it's always a good idea to have another person in the kitchen when yer making something."
Oops--it seemed he hadn't picked up on who Umbar is yet. He'll get there eventually.
no subject
"Oh, don't mention it," Umbar says with good humor. "Taking care of Gold is one of my biggest responsibilities, after all. I did tell him he should leave the cooking to the grown-ups, but he insisted on helping out, so what can I do?" He's dropping hints about his identity by referring to something he said on his first meeting with Banyan, now.
"Hey, Professor, do you have cookie cutters?" Gold asks, ignoring the little game Umbar was playing. "We couldn't find any when we looked." He's never had to use cookie cutters himself, so he doesn't actually know what exactly he should've been looking out for.
no subject
"Aha," He's smiling while cupping his chin. So that's who this friend is! The light bulb flicked on, and his appearance made more sense. Although--Pokemon taking on a human appearance. That was a new one for him. His mind was already wondering whether there were records of such in Ultern somewhere, but for now his attention was on Gold and his cookie baking adventures.
"Of course I do! Ya can't make cookies without some fun cookie cutters, right?" Chuckling he'll open one of the covers nearby to pull out an assortment of cookie cutters. "There's some seasonal ones--and ones shaped like Pokemon! You can use 'em all."
no subject
"Whoa, there's a bunch of different kinds!" Gold says, looking over them with excitement, and picking up a Delibird-shaped cutter, and a star-shaped, or maybe a Staryu-shaped one. "I didn't know they're like this! Hey, Professor, which ones do you like the most?" He's making cookies for everyone, including Banyan, so he wants to make some he can be sure Banyan would like.
no subject
Glancing at the cookie cutters Gold had in hand, he chuckled. In all honesty he would have been happy with any shape Gold picked but since he clearly wanted him to choose, Banyan was more than happy to humor him.
"Lemme see, I liked using the star one a lot. Y'know the move Swift? It makes me think of that--or heck it even reminds me of my partner Staryu." He beamed. "Which one of these do ya like, Gold?"
He'll ask while looking over the pumpkin and even a palm tree shaped ones (or maybe it was just Alolan Exeggutor).
no subject
"Star, huh? Yeah, it's nice," he says. He's seen the move Swift a few times, but he can't say it's made that much of an impression on him. Stars do make him think of the pattern on a pretty kimono he saw a while back on Ultern, and he smiles as he remembers it. "I like the star too." He's not sure if it's his favorite, but he'll go with that for now. "Which one do you like, Umbar?"
"Me?" Umbar's too busy to take a look, but he glances over. "Is there a crescent moon? I like those ones." Gold starts looking for a moon right away.
no subject
He'll move to go pull out a butter knife. He had considered briefly his bread knife, but maybe that was a little too big for cutting unbaked cookie pieces. Or cookies in general, really. Taking the butter knife out from the drawer he'll head back over to hold the knife out for Gold.
"So what kinda cookies are ya making? Or is it a secret?"
no subject
Gold sets the knife down for now, and takes out his Pokeballs. He's not going to bring out his Pokemon right now, but since the Pokeballs are see-through, his Pokemon can see what's going on outside.
"Which shapes do you guys like?" he asks them, holding the Pokeballs out in front of the cookie cutters. The Pokemon's voices are tinny through the balls, but Umbar can apparently understand them from where he's at.
"Carn says the palm tree," Umbar says, not looking away from his work. "And Nerica also claims the star for herself. The Hoothoot shape for Elena... And Mateo likes the pumpkin."
"Alright!" Gold says, putting the Pokeballs away before picking out the cookie cutters. "I guess we gotta make a lot of stars. Professor, you wanna help too?" As if Gold was the head baker himself...
no subject
"Ya bet I'd like ta help!" He takes a moment to hang his lab coat aside over on the dining room chair before returning right back with a wid grin. "Whaddya need me to do first, Chef Gold?" There's a playful wink from Banyan.
no subject
Umbar, finished with the batter, steps aside to let the others to it, and sits down himself, his job finished for now. Gold gets started on his side of the batter, making stars and carefully using the knife to turn circles into moons.
no subject
"This sure takes me back." Banyan mused out loud. He doesn't say how it reminded him of his younger days as his younger brother, and their friends would be in the kitchen hovering around the cookie dough together. Yet the nostalgic smile was there on his face. Glancing over to Gold, Banyan still had another question in mind-- "That's right, how are we gonna decorate 'em once they're done baking, Gold?"
no subject
"Hmm," Gold replies to Banyan's comment, very distracted by his work.
"Oh, same here," Umbar replies instead with a chuckle. "It's been a while since I've baked cookies myself. Oh, that reminds me, do you have any alcohol I could sample?"
Banyan's next question catches Gold's attention, and he looks up, surprised.
"Decorate?" he asks. That didn't even occur to him. "Umm, I dunno..." People decorate cookies? That must be normal since Banyan asked 'how do we' instead of 'do we'. "Uh, how do you wanna decorate them?"
no subject
He figured Umbar knew his own limits--and he trusted Gold enough to not drink it (and if he did Banyan would most definitely flip out). Speaking of which, he turned back to Gold with a nod.
"That's up to our head chef here." He winked playfully to Gold. "We can put icing on 'em, put sprinkles or them or colorful sugar. Of course, ya don't have to add anything to 'em either. What'd you like to do?"
He figured, given their past talk about cooking Gold didn't have much of a chance to bake cookies like this. He wanted to prioritize how Gold wanted to make the cookies given how happy he seemed about them thus far.
no subject
Gold pays no attention to what Umbar's doing, as he's very interested by the choices of decorating he's gotten. Icing, sprinkles, colorful sugar, or nothing at all... They all sound good, but he's not sure which one would be the best.
"Can we, um, do all of that?" he asks, hopeful but a little hesitant. Maybe that'd be too much work?
no subject
"Alright, I've got a variety of color sugar, and sprinkles too. The frosting... what kinda flavor do you want the frosting to be? I've got both vanilla and chocolate. Or I could whip up something new if you don't want either." Banyan questioned while moved to pull out the colorful sugars (the colors being red, green, blue) and the sprinkles being a mix of rainbow colors and golden ones that were sphere shaped from the kitchen cabinet and down onto the counter for Gold to look over.
no subject
"Shouldn't you wait until the cookies are baked before you decorate them?" Umbar calls out, interrupting him.
"Huh? Really?" Gold asks, then turns to Banyan questioningly, having no clue how decorating cookies works.
no subject
Banyan moved closer to Gold before lightly placing a hand a top Gold's head.
"S'okay though, yer still learnin'! But you know the best part of waiting while the cookies bake?" He's smiling wide, his teeth flashing. "You can have a taste of the frosting and sprinkles!"
no subject
The headpat catches him by surprise and he stiffens for a moment before relaxing. Right, this is one of those friendly things Banyan does. He's gotta get used to it.
"We can do that?" Gold asks, his eyes sparkling. He glances at the golden spheres in his hand, and sets them down. "Then we better get them in the oven quick!"
Time to hurry up and get those cookies ready for baking! Hopefully somebody's remembered to turn the oven on, because Gold is fully focused on cookie-cutting now.
no subject
"Haha, no need to rush Gold. The cookies aren't gonna run off." He chuckled. "Ah, don't forget to put on oven mitts! The oven can be hot!"
The professor moved to pull out the oven mitts he's had hanging. They're white mitts with red hibiscus patterns on them. He'll hold the oven mitts out to Gold.
"Safety first, right?"
