It's been two weeks since Attila's started living with Manzana and his wife. Four months and a half, more or less, since he'd arrived here and caged Electric types in large numbers using the Crystal System, even threatening a boy's Pikachu with death. For about as long, he'd been lying low, gathering intel (particularly on a researcher studying Mega Evolution, although he was tight-lipped about the details of his research...) that could benefit the organization, waiting for some order or communication from Team Rocket that never came.
He'd been posing as 'Akira' publicly, for a taste of normal civilian life... the kindness of the people here was undeniably moving, they accepted him as he was (even with his completely out of place disguise that felt more at home in Johto, particularly Ecruteak), but playing at being an ordinary, upstanding man felt dishonest, especially if he might have to return to his old home and old ways as suddenly as he'd been thrust here, and he didn't know how he would handle that or if he could go on, knowing he could happily live another way.
... well, it's not like him to dwell too much on the future! He'd better focus on the moment, that's more comfortable and natural for a guy like him, anyway.
A. Gilterrace Town
Buson had been helping with Manzana's herb garden in Gilterrace for these past two weeks, but he can also be found helping out around various the rice terraces, helping plant rice. The straw hat'll definitely come in handy, here!
B. Turnbloom City
Today will be the first time Attila wanders back out into the city without the straw hat, kimono, and geta sandals. In fact, he's not hiding his identity at all right now, although he isn't in Rocket uniform, he's still wearing his usual sunglasses. He's simply more comfortable wearing those all of the time. That said, he should still cut a very familiar silhouette for anyone who's crossed his path earlierunless, you're as face-blind as Ash Ketchum. He's a bit more tanned, but still as recognizable as ever, particularly in jeans and a tank top.
He expected the possibility of being recognized. He definitely didn't want to be chased by wild Electric types again (... they probably know him by scent, anyway), but if he had to face some retribution for his actions, so be it. He wanted, at least, to stop hiding from folks he did get along with here, so if the truth got out later on, he wouldn't be accused of deceiving anyone. It's better that he be the one to let them know, right?
There is a bit of the issue of possibly being a wanted man here, too, given that one officer called by that snake got a good look at him, but... at least he's only committed one crime here and hadn't actually gotten away with anything. It'd be a different story back home.
((4Kids wrangler Attila real, sorry, I mostly play based on the original's characterization, but for a repentant Attila, I felt like working on farms really would be putting his muslce to good use! A mechanic is also an option, of course. He'll probably be doing various odd jobs for an honest living. So, yes, a dairy farm also works, he could totally be a ranch hand, MooMooMilk has to come from somewhere, right?
Of course, that doesn't mean anyone has to believe he's sincere! Feel free to nurse a grudge or view him with suspicion. It comes with the territory!))

“… Attila. Went by Akira before, but it’s Attila,” Attila responded as he headed into the barn. “Y’know, he was looking to hire even before it, you were going to get the job either way.”
He started opening a shed and coaxing a Miltank out. The hay certainly smelled foul, with droppings and bits of food and other things. He swiped down some webbing with his broom, instead of focusing on the mess below.
“See, first, you gotta clean the top. You’ll waste your time if you clean everything down here first, then just knock down webs and dust all over it, got it? The dried-up stuff is easy to remove, too, the stickier stuff, we’ll need to wash to clean, so leave that for later…”

It definitely smells foul, but it doesn't bother Gold. He's smelled worse, and this just reminds him of his dad's farm. And besides, there's Miltank! They're so cute. Gold doesn't dare to try and pet it, though; he remembers how aggressive Whitney's Miltank could get.
He watches as Attila explains, trying to remember all of it.
"From the top first, then the bottom. Yeah, that makes sense," Gold says as he watches. That'd definitely make cleaning easier in other places, too. He makes a note of it.

The Miltank they just let out seemed docile enough! But they do have their own unique personalities, some are gentle and mild, others are more stubborn and grumpy.
Attila swept and dusted the top of the shed, then, started clearing out the old hay, dirty with droppings and bits of dried food.
"We'll sweep the hallway out later," Attila noted. "The sheds the focus, right now."
"Everything that's dry can be sweeped or scraped off pretty easily, but some of this stuff won't come off with just that..."

Gold nods as he watches the demonstration, and tries following along too. He makes a face at seeing the dried food bits. An instinctual part of him that hates wasting food wants to eat them, but he's not that lacking in food anymore. It still feels awful throwing those away when just a few years ago, finding something like these would've been a highlight in his day. It might be Pokemon food, but it's still edible for humans!
But he tears his eyes off them and keeps cleaning.
[Gold….. Gold, no!! … at least he controls himself…]
“… you’re gonna have a hard time adjustin’, like that… I feel kinda sorry for ya. I hope you’ll learn to trust ‘em eventually. They’re good people. You do what you feel like you gotta do, I guess…”
Definitely a weird kid, but Attila kind of liked this one. Definitely a whole lot more than Jimmy, he HATED that kid.
Attila couldn’t quite tell if he just found the dried up bits of food repulsive or something else… Gold didn’t linger on the droppings, which certainly were more repulsive. Hmm…
“Alright, now, we just gotta hose things down… can you go get it? You saw it outside, right?”
[he resisted! for now!]
Gold will keep on pointedly not looking at the food bits while working!
"No, I didn't," Gold lies easily for no reason. "You go get it."
[there is POOP and HAY mixed in, Gold, STOOOP]
Well, it didn’t really matter to Attila either way, besides, he needed to get the attachment for the hose too, so they can get a higher pressure flow.

"Yeah, I guess there's levels of trust, huh," Gold muses. "Now that I think about it, I've given you some trust too." He doesn't elaborate on that further.

“… thanks, but be careful, okay? Don’t make your judgments too fast.”
A stream of water helped clear away the more stubborn muck and grime for easier cleaning and scrubbing… in the end, the barn will shine!
“The sheds are washed on sunny days, so the water dries up faster. Don’t wanna send them back in there while it’s damp an’ all. If stuff won’t come off with water and a little elbow grease, you can use some cleaning solutions, same place where the hose attachments are, just make sure to clean them out good.”
There, sound easy enough?

Gold takes a moment to admire their work (of which he did very little). This farmwork stuff is easy! He'll be an expert in no time!
"Yeah, I got it!" Gold says with confidence. (He does not got it. He'll be lost if he has to do this by himself.)

But, after a moment of stunned silence, he cracked a broad, toothy smile.
“Brat with the Pikachu? Sure, I’ll be looking forward to it, but I don’t wanna inconvenience any’a these nice people... so if he wants to meet me, maybe it’d be better elsewhere. Like maybe at that cafe.”
He gestured to the next shed.
“Lemme see you do that one. I’ll watch. … so, what’d he tell you?”
He’s not expecting a straight answer out of this kid, really. This tip’s enough.
[this kid......]
So when Attila asks him to clean the next shed, Gold decides to test this.
"I can't. My arms are broken," he says, staring Attila right in the eyes, holding the broom with his clearly not broken arms. He ignores the question about Ash completely. It's not like Ash really told him much.
[… meanwhile Attila would-hit-a-child falling back on threats of violence]
“… y’think I’m stupid or somethin’?!” Attila asked, face turning red.
“I just went and did this one, you’re doing the next one, or I’ll REALLY break your arms! You aren’t bein’ paid to do NOTHING!”
Oh, he’s not making himself look good…
[oh, this is going great]
"Oh, you're gonna hurt me?" Gold asks, a sharp fake smile spreading on his face. He leans closer to Attila, eyes locked to his. "Gonna break my arms here and now? Yeah, that'll turn out well."
It's not even about the shed anymore. Gold's fine with cleaning it, but right now, testing his and Attila's limits and boundaries is more important. He has to know if Attila will actually hurt him or not.
[oh, Attila HATES him...]
It's not a proper pressure washer, just a small accessory attached to an ordinary hose. The pressure's not much stronger than a firm push, not to mention, Attila hadn't even squeezed it all the way.
"You're lucky the old man's broke and his farm's old-fashioned. Fortunately, I'm not stupid, I'm not letting some punk kid ruin this for me, and I don't want either the old man or that weirdo friend of yours on my a—hey, that's an idea. You want this job so badly? Have it. I quit."
Attila walked off, sensing the confused and concerned old man must've heard his shouting earlier and begun approaching.
Attila plainly informed him he finished his work and showed Gold the ropes, but doesn't have the patience to work with kids.

But when he's sprayed with a mild pressure of a hose, the cold water brings him back into the current moment, and he opens his eyes once the spraying's stopped, just staring at Attila. He listens to him talk, dumbfounded, and doesn't respond at all, even as Attila walks away.
He stands there, clothes dripping, then laughs to himself. Attila didn't hit him! He knew it.
Now that that moment's passed, he feels lighter than before, but also feels sorry for Attila. He runs after the older man.
"Hey, mister!" he calls out, waving, and stops in front of the old farmer, all smiles, paying absolutely no mind to the fact he's dripping wet. "I learned a lot! This place is fun to work at, but I guess mister Attila doesn't like kids! I'm gonna quit so he can stay instead!" He turns to Attila and gives him a smile.

The old man looked confused and hurt, unable to understand what had happened.
"What happened to your clothes...?" he asked Gold, already eyeing Attila with suspicion, but Gold's words confused him further.
Things seemed to be going well with both of them, were they really just that incompatible...?
Attila looked even more confused by where Gold was taking this, but grabbed the back of Gold's clothes, tugging him closer.
"Hey, don't be in such a hurry. You don't have to leave. I ain't gonna starve, I work at plenty'a places here. You got this job, you can keep it."
The old man tried to offer that they work on different days, perhaps, or times of day...?

"Oh, this guy sprayed me with the hose," Gold laughs, pointing a thumb at Attila. "I totally deserved it though! I guess he doesn't like being teased."
Gold lets himself be tugged back, and smiles back at Attila. He's feeling the high of being totally in control of the situation, knowing he could decide whether Attila gets fired or not, and is giving him his mercy.
"Don't worry about it! You know this job better than me, so you should be the one staying! But I guess we could both work different times," Gold says with a shrug. "As long as you keep teaching me about how to work today! Don't worry, I'll play nice from now on."
[this calls for a new icon]
The old farmer gave Attila and Gold both weary looks, but was glad they were only teasing, but told them to be more careful next time and avoid playing with tools!
Attila's gaze behind the sunglasses was quite irritated, to say the least, bue he kept a very forced polite smile on.
"... different times sounds good, yeah. I'll teach you what else we do around here..."
The old farmer seemed satisfied with that and Attila let Gold go.
