((CW reference to (past) temporary human and Pokemon character death. This is extremely backdated to after the mystery dungeon misadventure post with Bashou, since I've felt stuck and unable to post with Buson since then (entirely self-imposed, no one else's fault, I just wanted my posts in order, I wanted to wait 'til that thread was finished, but not going to do that anymore), outside of replying to other posts. It's been a long time, so I don't even fully remember what I wanted to write, so it's a bit boring, but it's relevant because Buson catches a Pokemon and he has some people/Pokemon waiting for him, so... even if my writing stinks here and isn't very engaging, I felt I had to finish it.))

Revival - Mystery Shrine

The first thing Buson notices is he's no longer in the cave. The ground is soft, the air is cool, and there isn't a boulder crushing him. Suspiciously, he glances down, feeling his chest (with his hands! ... he has both arms again) Even the pokeballs clipped to his bandolier aren't crushed anymore (he felt them break and wondered how it felt for his Pokemon...)

He releases Muk and Skarmory, who are also safe and whole, loudly greeting him (Skarmory'a cry and wingbeats and Muk's bellowing voice the only sounds, aside from the chirping of nocturnal Bug types)... only Mawile wasn't caught in that accident (or punishment, really, for his half-serious little plan to collapse tunnels to prifit off exclusive maps, as he's inclined, once more, to think of those always winding paths as something supernatural.) He half-wonders if Bashou took him or if he went wild. He seemed too tame (too human-like, honestly) to go back. This wasn't his land anyway, but it was close enough, climate-wise...

He notices something other than dark earth and dense trees to his side and when he rolls over and sees a small shrine. It gives him the creeps, a little bit, in the faint moonlight, but it's also an oddly comforting little sight. So, maybe he wasn't wholly unforgivable.

He's half-inclined to jokingly ask if bringing him back to Ultern wasn't some kind of mistake, but saying anything felt a little too irreverent, so he kept his silence.

He wanted to go back home. He hadn't expected to ever miss his old life, he had his mind made up about wanting to live out the rest of his days here, but in what he felt were his last moments, he missed where he grew up. He missed the inn he lived with Bashou here too, regretted dying just when he'd finally saved up for a house, too... mostly, he missed his partner and regretted leaving him alone, and dreaded the possibility that he might not return to Bashou's side.

Clackoon - Wildflower Cape

A little later, not far from the shrine, Buson hears crackling. A sound like firewood. It seems a little ominous at first (who else would be having a little campout so close to burial grounds? ... apart from someone waiting), not to mention, he was walking through a patch of flowers, wouldn't the fire spread quickly? The sound followed him and he turned sharply, but only found... a strange and unusual Pokemon. The colours reminded him of a Teddiursa or a Sentret, but the overall shape... it looked like a very fat tanuki.

He cracked a grin. "Never seen a Pokemon like that before! You wanna come along?"

On closer inspection, it carried a bundle of sticks strapped to its back, quite obviously on fire. Its eyes were wide and panicked.
"That don't look too good, you're not a Fire type, are you? You wanna put that down?"

The Pokemon shook its head and wouldn't allow him to remove the firewood strapped to its back or let Buson try to smother the flames with his jacket! It even grabbed a stick and blew the fire at Buson, singing his hair a bit as he dodged.

Were they fighting or just (terribly) attempting to communicate? Who knows, feel free to misinterpret and add fuel (hopefully not literally) to fire.

Reflection - Stardust Beach

To those in Ultern, Buson might be gone for about nine days, give or take. He didn’t show up for work on the cargo ship, without excuse, but as one of the drifted, suddenly leaving was as expected as suddenly arriving, and life went on…

To Buson, he’d been gone months (or was it nearly a year?), returned to complete the ill-fated Raikou mission, as well as many more successful ventures, even capturing another Legendary Pokemon for Team Rocket. He watched the seasons change and lost the deeper tan he’d gained in the rice terraces and on the sea. His more relaxed and friendly expression had regained a sharper, crueler edge, but to his credit, he never lost his sense of humour! Alright, so, maybe he'd started cracking even more jokes than usual as a coping mechanism, but

He had kept the souvenir bottle of sand he'd bought the last time he was in Ohritori and taken it with him to Johto, and back again. It was the only thing that convinced he hadn't dreamed it all. There were a number of times he thought of casting it out into the sea or otherwise disposing of it, and he often kept it out of sight, since it seemed to taunt or shame him for how easily he returned to old ways, but he still found it impossible to abandon.

The hope he might return also had him catch another Pokemon to keep with him, so his Bandolier now has two more pokeballs clipped to it.

He now found himself once more, on Stardust Beach, in Ohritori, at night, and stayed watching the dark sea in silence. He felt nostalgic, jaded, apprehensive, and relieved. He felt so many conflicting emotions, that he could only sit and wait to see which would be the victor, as he regained his bearings and fully accepted he had truly returned.

He might search for familiar faces after that...

Hiding in Plain Sight - Turnbloom City

—But first, a place to purchase a change of clothes, as he'd arrived in his silver Team Rocket uniform once again, as his appearance was known to at least one officer in Ohritori. He considered traditional Ulternian clothes, this time. The brighter, bolder colours, particularly the reds and oranges, caught his eye and they weren't as restrictive as kimono, even worn properly... but all the colours he liked seemed to be more restricted to women's clothes!

So, with some disappointment, he opted for kariyushi instead. Picking the loudest, reddest kariyushi shirt with the busiest, boldest pattern and swapping his sunglasses for... another pair of sunglasses (but tackier, star-shaped, even), he also grabbed a pair of shorts, and even a fisherman's bucket hat.

He took one look in the changing room mirror, all decked out, flashed a grin, and said, "They won't know what hit 'em!"

He paid and left, whistling a tune, hanging onto his bundled-up uniform, at least long enough to find a good place to hide it. Part of him wanted to burn it, but he knew it could come in handy. You could never have too many disguises!

Touching Base - Chura Island

He wasn't sure if they would still have that place in Gukuru House. Was Bashou paying for the inn? Would he have moved away? How long had it been for him? Perhaps... Bashou might have even returned to his own world? Buson would search for him all the same, just in case.

If there's anyone he can't find, he could always ask around and follow their trail to track them down... that's a skill he never lost.

Inquiry [tweet peep post to Pippi, also crossposted to Mimmeo; backdated to around May 22nd-23rd, after their trip to Chichi Island in this thread]

BIG GAINS 💪 @(legendarycheatday):

anybody ever successfully or even halfway grow one of these things???

[A photograph of a cut Midnight Bloom from Chichi Island, sitting in a plastic bottle of water, even in the dim light, its petals still faintly glow like moonlight! There’s tissue paper spread out under it, to disguise the low tables of Gukuru House, in case anyone recognizes the exact tables or even clay pottery used at the inn.

Rather different from the anonymous user's usual strict focus on fitness tips, training regimens, and memes!]

Reprieve [present date; primarily for Bashou ([personal profile] bashou) in Gukuru House, but can include anyone else who run into Buson between Chura and Ohritori island]

Buson might have despaired too quickly, earlier. A Team Rocket executive was still a human being. He couldn’t defeat death itself or stop it from claiming a friend of his, but he could at least talk to a human being who terrorized one of his friends who's shaken up from already being taken hostage by Rockets before… even if the Rocket frightening him this time was his superior.
She was, after all, just a human being. Solid. Tangible. Vulnerable.
… something he knew all too well, which made even treating her solely like an enemy or threat to be dealt with quickly difficult. He still pitied her, which would surely aggravate Mayday. She might not be dealt with as quickly and easily as a nameless grunt, but maybe it wouldn't have to go that far, and they could just talk.

Before setting out, Buson would write a note for Bashou, as he didn’t see him up. Maybe he was busy working, maybe he was asleep, or maybe he stepped outside. Buson wasn’t sure at the moment, entirely focused on what he intended to do.

“Taking the ferry.
Friends having an argument.
I got to make peace.
—B.”

And then, he would simply leave it on the table and go, provided there are no interruptions, neither in Gukuru House or the docks, and take the ferry back to Ohritori, simply as a passenger. He’d have a grim and sober air about him and wouldn’t look terribly friendly or approachable today, whether on the ferry or at port, or even in the city, although he might put on a smile for a familiar face or to get information.

Peacekeeping [present date; closed to Mayday ([personal profile] ateamrocket), wherever he finds her]

It might have taken a lot of asking around and following some dead ends, but Buson will find her eventually (maybe to one of her usual haunts or even to whatever abandoned building she’s taken up residence!); he’s always been good at following a trail to find his target.

“Hey, Mayday.”

No honorifics or formalities, just like she asked, but the tone lacks any warmth and his voice is low and quiet, in an almost intimidating fashion. He’s approaching this like his old job, even if it felt twisted using these tactics on a superior who was only acting as a Rocket would

Well, it isn’t clear-cut treachery yet, they're just talking.

Attila had taken to living in Chura for quieter, more private living arrangements, but that meant leaving the ranches and rice terraces of Gilterrace behind. Fortunately, Attila had many kinds of jobs open to him and decided to try working for a cargo ship for a change, so he could more easily travel between islands, as he'd had plenty of experience with that sort of thing...

(Not all of them wholesome, but hey, regardless of transporting captives or goods, a lot of the same principles applied for ships and planes, so his skills transferred over very well... except that that unlike with planes, ships travelled a bit more slowly, and he had to be present with the cargo for loading, shipping, and unloading, so he'd spend about a week at sea, going from island to island, before he'd return home.)

He won't be selling anything himself, that's what the merchants did, Attila just loaded things in and out, made sure everything was as safely and neatly stored, and that the ship remained up-right and well-balanced.

Turnbloom City + Stardust Beach, Ohritori

While he had some free time while the ship was docked and restocking, after unloading cargo to be sold in Turnbloom Market, Attila decided to look around and see if he could spot any familiar faces... and eat some udon. Hey, he missed the food while he was away!

He also decided to call up Manzana, both to update him on how things were going (great!), but also to casually ask where he was (not wanting to bring up where he was first, so he won't make him feel like he should go out of the way to visit him or anything...!).

Attila could even be found purchasing trinkets, like a little jar of the star-shaped sand to take home.

Sun and Palssio

At some point, before leaving port, Attila had a bit of an accident, slipping on a newly waxed surface and nearly falling overboard, right over the railing (he's tall and top-heavy enough he could still fall over!)—but he's pushed backwards, back to safety, but his eyes never seem to get used to the light...

"N-nife..." Atilla managed weakly, squinting at the bright sunlight, before realizing the reason things weren't just too bright just from a shock that hadn't worn off, but from the light shining off gushing Water type moves from some friendly, playful Passio that shoved him back on board with strong streams of water. His head and shoulders were drenched, but more importantly—he'd lost his sunglasses!

He swore as he tried to reach back for them between the bars, but the Palssion were too busy playing with them, passing them back and forth like a ball.

"H-hey, my sunglasses!"

Port Opportune, Chura Island

He was finally home! Attila would head back to Gukuru House soon enough, where he lived with Bashou, at least for now, but he could be caught walking around port before that!

Question [closed to Ash]
Alright. It was time Buson (Attila, or even Akira, if you prefer) stopped gleaming information solely through listening in on conversations or second-hand sources. With his partner here, after nearly half a year of separation, he was going to need more precise answers.
But he also didn’t want to go around in disguise. He isn’t trying to trick anyone and if the boy’s still angry (even if it was his fault for ignoring his very charitable warnings until his Pikachu was in serious danger…), so be it.

After asking around for where to find him, Buson approached without preamble, dressed almost exactly the way he did on first arrival. Pants tucked into black boots, belt, blue tank top. No R-emblazoned jacket, a much deeper tan too. Stupid? Risky? Misguided? Probably all of those things and then some, but he didn’t care and approached it with the same gravitas as a mission, which might give the incorrect impression he’d gone back on his word, but he wasn’t visibly causing any trouble…

“Hey.”

Gilterrace and Turnbloom + Snacks and Grudges[open to all]

Searching is hungry work, so Buson could easily be found taking breaks, here and there, slurping udon or loudly crunching chips or whatever’s available, really. Atrocious table manners.

He could be approached alone or found with a bunch of very, very irate wild Electric types gathering unnoticed behind his chosen seat of the moment, looking about ready to ambush him.

It's been two weeks since Attila's started living with Manzana and his wife. Four months and a half, more or less, since he'd arrived here and caged Electric types in large numbers using the Crystal System, even threatening a boy's Pikachu with death. For about as long, he'd been lying low, gathering intel (particularly on a researcher studying Mega Evolution, although he was tight-lipped about the details of his research...) that could benefit the organization, waiting for some order or communication from Team Rocket that never came.

He'd been posing as 'Akira' publicly, for a taste of normal civilian life... the kindness of the people here was undeniably moving, they accepted him as he was (even with his completely out of place disguise that felt more at home in Johto, particularly Ecruteak), but playing at being an ordinary, upstanding man felt dishonest, especially if he might have to return to his old home and old ways as suddenly as he'd been thrust here, and he didn't know how he would handle that or if he could go on, knowing he could happily live another way.

... well, it's not like him to dwell too much on the future! He'd better focus on the moment, that's more comfortable and natural for a guy like him, anyway.

A. Gilterrace Town

Buson had been helping with Manzana's herb garden in Gilterrace for these past two weeks, but he can also be found helping out around various the rice terraces, helping plant rice. The straw hat'll definitely come in handy, here!

B. Turnbloom City

Today will be the first time Attila wanders back out into the city without the straw hat, kimono, and geta sandals. In fact, he's not hiding his identity at all right now, although he isn't in Rocket uniform, he's still wearing his usual sunglasses. He's simply more comfortable wearing those all of the time. That said, he should still cut a very familiar silhouette for anyone who's crossed his path earlier unless, you're as face-blind as Ash Ketchum. He's a bit more tanned, but still as recognizable as ever, particularly in jeans and a tank top.

He expected the possibility of being recognized. He definitely didn't want to be chased by wild Electric types again (... they probably know him by scent, anyway), but if he had to face some retribution for his actions, so be it. He wanted, at least, to stop hiding from folks he did get along with here, so if the truth got out later on, he wouldn't be accused of deceiving anyone. It's better that he be the one to let them know, right?

There is a bit of the issue of possibly being a wanted man here, too, given that one officer called by that snake got a good look at him, but... at least he's only committed one crime here and hadn't actually gotten away with anything. It'd be a different story back home.

((4Kids wrangler Attila real, sorry, I mostly play based on the original's characterization, but for a repentant Attila, I felt like working on farms really would be putting his muslce to good use! A mechanic is also an option, of course. He'll probably be doing various odd jobs for an honest living. So, yes, a dairy farm also works, he could totally be a ranch hand, MooMooMilk has to come from somewhere, right?

Of course, that doesn't mean anyone has to believe he's sincere! Feel free to nurse a grudge or view him with suspicion. It comes with the territory!))

[There's a very imposing figure in a tell-tale red R-emblazoned silvery grey uniform, whistling in an impressed fashion as he took in his work. He might've gotten stranded here without his partner, but it's a good thing his chicken-walker's all in one piece and he even still had Professor Sebastian's crystal...
The crystal was working optimally, given that the force-field it generated attracted Electric types from all around, so he could easily snap them up with the pincer-arm of his mecha, tossing them into cages, while all their Electric type attacks failed to land their mark, as the crystal absorbed their electric shocks, taking that power for itself!]

Hah, it's no use... you can shock it all you want, you're just going to tire yourself out!

The Boss'll really be happy when he sees this! You might not be that one, but you're mysterious, unusual-looking Pokemon all the same! [Strolling leisurely along the shock-proof cages, Buson grinned and slammed a hand on top of one, frightening the terrified Ulternian Pichu contained within, which scurry to huddle together in the corner farthest from the grinning Rocket, all fluffing up even more from the sparks they let off in fear.]

You should be grateful, you're going to serve the biggest, strongest team around...

On second thought, don't shock it too much, we wanna get you to 'em alive.

((Note: Attila (AKA Buson) is one of the two primary antagonists of The Legend of Thunder and they're a more vicious than the usual Rocket trio... put bluntly, he beats up people (young trainers included!) to torture them (the anime cuts away while he's advancing and cracking his knuckles, while his partner just watches from the doorway...), so, er, hit the opt-out & permissions post if you'd rather not interact with this character ever. There'll be no surprise violence either way, I'll ask first, but just in case you want to completely opt-out of dealing with this guy!))
