It's been two weeks since Attila's started living with Manzana and his wife. Four months and a half, more or less, since he'd arrived here and caged Electric types in large numbers using the Crystal System, even threatening a boy's Pikachu with death. For about as long, he'd been lying low, gathering intel (particularly on a researcher studying Mega Evolution, although he was tight-lipped about the details of his research...) that could benefit the organization, waiting for some order or communication from Team Rocket that never came.
He'd been posing as 'Akira' publicly, for a taste of normal civilian life... the kindness of the people here was undeniably moving, they accepted him as he was (even with his completely out of place disguise that felt more at home in Johto, particularly Ecruteak), but playing at being an ordinary, upstanding man felt dishonest, especially if he might have to return to his old home and old ways as suddenly as he'd been thrust here, and he didn't know how he would handle that or if he could go on, knowing he could happily live another way.
... well, it's not like him to dwell too much on the future! He'd better focus on the moment, that's more comfortable and natural for a guy like him, anyway.
A. Gilterrace Town
Buson had been helping with Manzana's herb garden in Gilterrace for these past two weeks, but he can also be found helping out around various the rice terraces, helping plant rice. The straw hat'll definitely come in handy, here!
B. Turnbloom City
Today will be the first time Attila wanders back out into the city without the straw hat, kimono, and geta sandals. In fact, he's not hiding his identity at all right now, although he isn't in Rocket uniform, he's still wearing his usual sunglasses. He's simply more comfortable wearing those all of the time. That said, he should still cut a very familiar silhouette for anyone who's crossed his path earlierunless, you're as face-blind as Ash Ketchum. He's a bit more tanned, but still as recognizable as ever, particularly in jeans and a tank top.
He expected the possibility of being recognized. He definitely didn't want to be chased by wild Electric types again (... they probably know him by scent, anyway), but if he had to face some retribution for his actions, so be it. He wanted, at least, to stop hiding from folks he did get along with here, so if the truth got out later on, he wouldn't be accused of deceiving anyone. It's better that he be the one to let them know, right?
There is a bit of the issue of possibly being a wanted man here, too, given that one officer called by that snake got a good look at him, but... at least he's only committed one crime here and hadn't actually gotten away with anything. It'd be a different story back home.
((4Kids wrangler Attila real, sorry, I mostly play based on the original's characterization, but for a repentant Attila, I felt like working on farms really would be putting his muslce to good use! A mechanic is also an option, of course. He'll probably be doing various odd jobs for an honest living. So, yes, a dairy farm also works, he could totally be a ranch hand, MooMooMilk has to come from somewhere, right?
Of course, that doesn't mean anyone has to believe he's sincere! Feel free to nurse a grudge or view him with suspicion. It comes with the territory!))

Turnbloom City
Red's in the process of taking the poster down, and hasn't noticed Attila. Yet.
[PFFT, Red]
His first instinct is to be offended he was drawn so poorly.
His second was mild fear. Alright, so maybe he wasn’t ready to be recognized by everyone he’d crossed paths with here…!
It’s that weird guy he’d dodged before! He definitely saw how the Electric types acted around him! Attila slowly stepped backwards, trying to edge out of the alley. If he was giving up looking for him, that’s a good thing, isn’t it…?

“Hey, hey, I’m not looking for a fight today! I’ll come clean, then, you can decide what you wanna do.”
He can take a beating just fine, he just would rather stay out of jail… but if it comes down to that, fine, he won’t run.
[Red's communication skills, everyone]
"...When?" Red asks. He ignores the second sentence since he doesn't know what it means so it's probably not important.
[Attila running with it without any understanding, go]
Attila made a face, confused. Was Red giving him time to get his affairs in order out of generosity, or was he just letting him dangle to terrify him? That last possibility’s disturbing… he’d have made a great member of Team Rocket. Maybe the guy planned to beat him to death! That’d be a terrible, but fitting way for him to go…
(All of this unsubstantiated.)
“You wanna fight me that badly…? I guess I had it coming…” Attila sighed. “So, how about tomorrow, actually, maybe two days from now? I wanna thank the folks who’d taken me in and get some work done. I won’t run away. No weapons, right?”
He thought about releasing Skarmory and Muk or advising them to wait for Hun, if he should ever arrive after him… if they still wanted to work for Team Rocket, maybe… they trusted and obeyed Hun. Otherwise, they could be free…
[The misunderstandings may get even worse...]
"No weapons...?" he repeats, confused. Some Pokemon do fight with weapons, like Farfetch'd and Marowak, but banning those from the match doesn't sound like what Attila's talking about. ...He should really ask for clarification.
"What... are you talking about?" Red asks, staring down at Attila, eyes narrowed as he's trying to puzzle this out.
[Waiting patiently for them to properly communicate]
Not exactly true, but… not entirely false, either.
“Otherwise, it’s just an execution, isn’t it? Might as will turn me in.”
The question confused Attila, who crossed his arms, feeling like Red wasn’t taking this seriously. “You wanted to fight me, didn’t you? Isn’t that what the posters are about?”
[perhaps soon]
"...Why?" Red asks.
He glances at the poster he's got rolled up, and nods. He takes it out and unrolls it, showing it to Attila. It reads, with scrawly text, clearly written with crayons pressed hard against the paper: "LECTRIC TYPES HAT HIM! WHO IS THIS MAN? TEL RED" and then there's a bad drawing of Attila.
"Diego made it," Red says, like that's an explanation.
[a mess.]
No, Red, you're just confusing and aggravating Attila more. He's short-tempered, careful!
no subject
"Diego," he says, and the Pokeball pops open. Out comes a Charizard, giving a wide smile and two thumbs-ups in an 'aaaaayyy' kind of pose at Attila. Does that clear things up, Attila? Red hopes so.
[finally, communication!]
Alright. There's no way this guy was for real. Red's flat tone was hard to read, but his his drawing Dragon type with the skill of a first grader didn't seem to be taking this remotely seriously.
Attila stood for a moment, fingers curling into fists, but then... asked a question instead of punching anything.
"... so, you're not looking to beat me up or stab me?"
no subject
"No?" Red replies with confusion, staring at Attila. Did he accidentally scare this guy? That sucks, he hates it when he does that. He didn't expect a tough-looking guy like this would be that easily scared, though.
Diego the Charizard, meanwhile, is just grinning proudly. His letter-drawing skills are great, aren't they?
[oof, always gonna forget Charizard's not a Dragon type unless Mega Evolved, ffff]
Well. That's awkward. What's Attila supposed to do now?
"... so, uh. What were you after?"
no subject
Red's not sure how his intents got so distorted. After all, when two Pokemon Trainers meet, shouldn't a trainer battle be natural?
(He has no idea Attila is anything but a regular Pokemon Trainer, after all.)
no subject
Attila rubbed the back of his head.
"I ain't really a Pokemon trainer, kid. I work on farms and rice terraces... the Pokemon are for help cuttin' stuff... and protection while travelling... you'll be kinda disappointed battlin' me. I don't really do it for sport."
no subject
He's still holding the Pokeball, arm extended towards Attila in an obvious challenge.
no subject
They can have an aerial battle!
Skarmory cawed as it emerged, flaring its reflective, metallic wings.
[aaand skipping the battle!]
With Red and his Pokemon both giving it everything they've got after their loss last time, they show Attila the true power of the former Kanto Champion. The battle ends in Red's victory, with Nickie the Nidoqueen as the final Pokemon on the field, making up for her loss the last time. She roars in celebration, flexing her arms.
Red shows no outward feelings about this victory, just tilting his hat slightly and nodding to Attila, but on the inside, he's very happy with this result. Attila's strategy was nothing special, but his Pokemon's attacks were powerful and intense, like they were aiming to kill. It was satisfying and exhilarating to battle against them, and Red wouldn't mind doing that again sometime.
[oh, good...!]
There wasn't any reason to fight dirty and his opponent was just that, an opponent, and not an enemy that needed to be taken down, so it was unusual for his Pokemon, who were mostly sent out to take down dangerous threats or remove obstacles.
He wasn't the greatest at coming up with strategies, it simply wasn't his forte at all, so moves taken down a notch from a serious fight and battling without any tricks against a seaoned trainer and a Champion at that... he lost, but it was still... fun! He had fun.
Maybe this is what that kid was talking about... no, never mind.
"You're tough, gotta admit. But y'know, it was kind of like battling just your Pokemon, I didn't hear too many orders. Did you train 'em to respond to other signals or somethin'...?"
Like those stomps. It might be an interesting technique to learn and teach his Pokemon, if he could.
[time for Attila to encounter Red's typing style!]
He heads over to Attila, to chat after the battle, and gives Nickie a fistbump on the way there, before recalling her back into the Pokeball.
He's not sure how to answer Attila's questions, though. It's a lot to explain in words.
"Mm..." he shrugs, then takes out his phone, typing on it silently, before turning it over to show the screen to Attila.
"thanx!! <333
yea i'm bad at talking so i stomp b4 i tell them what 2 do lol ^-^"
Red's face is, of course, as emotionless as ever as he holds the phone.
no subject
... but he hadn't expected that.
Nothing could prepare him for that!
Sure, some people were more comfortable communicating in text, he supposed, and he could easily see that for someone as quiet as Red being one of those people, but he never expected so many... cute kaomoji and is that a heart? Several hearts? Streaming out in rapid succession? He actually tilted his head to the side, squinting as he tried to imagine it. Oh, boy...
"Hey, stop me if I'm conceited and getting this all wrong, but..."
Maybe Red just always types like giddy teenaged girl, who knows, it's not really his place to assume, but...
"You don't still think I'm cute, do ya? You're barkin' up the wrong tree, here. I don't... swing that way. Sorry.... but it's cool that they learned what that means. It's a clever solution."
no subject
Well, he's not broken up about being turned down. He types his next response to Attila and shows it.
"sry!! yea ur pretty cute but if it makes u uncomf i'll stop. platonic hearts only from now on!! <3 (if that's ok lol ^^;)
thanx! ur pokemon r pretty cool too! and vicious >:3 how'd u train them??"
no subject
"Thanks. I'd like less hearts in general, but like, you're not making me uncomfortable, it's just... weird, nobody texts me hearts," he said, sounding slightly defensive.
Or any of those faces? What the heck, is that 3 supposed to be a kitty mouth? He kept staring at it a while, jaw hanging open, at a loss, before laughing a bit.
"Since we don't really battle for sport, but for self-defense or just to clear obstacles, they can be pretty mean and vicious. This was us holdin' back a little, since we aren't enemies and your Pokemon aren't, like, an overgrown thorny hedge or somethin'."
no subject
Red pauses for a moment, studying Attila's difficulty in reading his writing.
"sorry is this hard to read?? i can tone it down!!"
Red nods, he understands that. He may battle for fun and sport himself, but he knows some people, like Gold, started out training Pokemon out of necessity. So Attila must've had a hard time in the past, huh.
"maybe we can battle without you holding back sometime??"
Red really wants to add an emoticon at the end there, but holds back.
