Spring is around the corner-

[Over at the Banyan Research Lab it's not hard to notice Professor Banyan right outside. His lab coat is left by front porch with his Ulternian Pikachu having taken over it during its nap time, as he's tending to his front yard. He can be heard humming a song while working away.

For anyone passing by he'll be more than happy to have a chat.

Otherwise aside from gardening, the Professor will be seen nearby the shores intensely studying nearby Pokemon on the beach. He's got a notepad in hand to occasionally jot down his observations.]

(🌺Come have a chat with the local Professor! Also for those who are interested he's more than happy to hand out one of the Ulternian Starter Pokemon as well!🌺)

...Yeah, it's what he thought. Gold purses his lips as he listens to Trip, frowning a little.

"Yeah," he finally says with a sigh. "He's a good person. Kind and loving. Doesn't judge people for who they are. Flawlessly nice." Better than me, goes unsaid, but Gold's voice is a little bitter.

He knows there's no real reason to dislike Elio, other than his own issues. Being reminded of that just makes him feel even more like a jerk.

"Yeah. Like I said, I don't care for the type that feels too good to be true, either," Trip said, rather lazily, folding his arms and resting his head against them. "... but there isn't a person in the world who's flawless, even if they seem that way, you just gotta get to know 'em... even if the only flaw is being really annoying or something."

"You don't have to be friends or anything, but it'd be better to clear the air, so it isn't awkward for anyone, right?"

It's a relief hearing Trip say that. That's right, there's no need to be friends with Elio. ...The problem is Gold already told Elio they were friends, and there's no non-awkward way to take that back.

"Yeah... I think I wanna get along with him. Or, at least... act more natural around him. Maybe if I find out his dark secrets he's an alright guy!" Because what's a better bonding method than telling each other your secrets?

"Yeeeah, don't count on it," Trip said. "Not everybody's going to divulge their deepest, darkest secrets to a random stranger, so you're going to have to work your way up, probably. Good luck," he said, with absolutely no energy behind it.

He might just take a little nap, across the foot of the bed. Maybe the greasy chips and sugary soda made him feel sluggish and sleepy? Or the heavy conversation earlier. Or both.

Having finished eating and finding his trainer at ease, Serperior decided it was safe enough to leave his side, slithering over to Gold. He kept his head high, proud as ever, gaze cool and level... but rather than sizing Gold up, this time, he just gently nudged him with his head.

Was he trying to communicate with him?

"I'll do my very best," Gold says overly seriously, then grins.

Oh, Trip's taking a nap? Yeah, that's fine by Gold. He'll do his best to stay quiet.

Serperior approaching does have him kind of nervous, but he holds still, and holds up a finger to his lips in the 'shh' pose. Hopefully Serperior gets it.

Oh, nudges? So Serperior's being affectionate? Kind of unexpected, but Serperior is pretty affetionate with Trip so maybe he's just warming up to Gold too. Gold decides to try and pet Serperior's head, slowly and making sure not to startle Serperior or anything, and see how that goes.

Serperior is very affectionate, despite the cool aura about him, yes! He made a contented sound, leaning into Gold's touch, momentarily forgetting that he had wanted to communicate something else!

Aww, cute! Gold giggles softly and keeps petting, having no idea Serperior was trying to tell him something.

Serperior would just keep enjoying the pets for a liiiittle bit longer, before recalling he had a message to give!

He suddenly looked serious and tried to push Gold along, a bit more urgently. Maybe he could communicate with one of Gold's Pokemon better? He won't be so arrogant or high-handed as to offend them this time (hopefully)! Would tapping his leafy tail at where Gold kept his pokeballs help?

It's important!

"Ah, what?" Gold whispers in surprise as he's pushed. Not used to snake body language, he assumes Serperior had enough of petting and backs off, holding his hands up.

Most of Gold's Pokemon are currently playing outside, so of the Pokeballs at Gold's waist, only the Lure Ball is occupied at the moment. Fortunately, the Pokemon inside it notices the tapping, and speaks up.

"(What seems to be the matter?)" the tinny, muffled voice of Umbar the Lugia asks politely in Pokemon language.

Alas, Serperior has just his head, neck, and tail to communicate with… he has a hardly functional pair of leaves that were formerly limbs, but they now stay mostly at his back…

He isn’t mad, it isn’t a striking or threatening position, but it’s hard to tell for someone without much experience with snake Pokemon.

“{Your master should go outside. Speak with Professor Banyan. There’s been a misunderstanding. My master was informed of it and intended to go search for Elio to inform him as well, but it seems that will be delayed,}” Serperior explained, glancing at the window.

Gold notices Serperior and Umbar are talking, so he takes Umbar's ball and holds it out to let them see each other better. He's curious about what's going on, but he doesn't want to interrupt, and he knows Umbar will tell him whatever's important.

Umbar, now clearly visible in his Lure Ball, tilts his head with a calm smile.

"(Yes, there have been some misunderstandings, indeed. But is this one so urgent? I'd rather not disturb your master unnecessarily, or mine, for that matter. Could you tell me the details of what's going on so I'll know what to tell Gold?)" He's talking slowly, relaxed, so he can get Serperior to calm down as well. Young Pokemon were always rushing into things without thinking them through first, and Umbar knows the matter with Gold, Elio and Banyan has caused Gold a lot of heartache, so he doesn't want to make it any worse.

“{I… suppose it is not so urgent as to necessitate disturbing our masters at this very moment,}” Serperior ceded, after a moment of reflection. “{The Professor’s error was in explaining where Elio and Gold are to sleep. He did not mean they would both have the same room, but that was what was understood, and Elio had left for the fields and not returned, since hearing that.}”

Another pause, then, Serperior added: “{Oh, and tell your master he gives very good pets.}”

"(Ah, that misunderstanding,)" Umbar says, nodding gravely, but then gives a gentle smile. "(No need to worry. Gold is already aware of all that. But... thank you for looking out for our boy.)"

"What are you guys talking about?" Gold finally asks, unable to hold his curiosity.

"Oh, nothing. Serperior says you give very good pets," Umbar tells him in human language.

"...Really?" Gold asks with a slight frown, not really buying it. He doesn't think Umbar would be lying, but that seems a bit off with how serious Serperior seemed. But he smiles at Serperior anyway. "Thanks!"

Serperior smiled just as happily at Gold too, his two fangs glinting at the bottom of his mouth, but then looked back at Umbar, appreciative for not troubling Gold with the details.

“{Thank you. Then, only Elio is unaware… my master planned to find and inform him too, I could feel it. Should we delay it? I will do as Gold prefers, for now.}”

Umbar was certainly respectable, but Serperior had yet to fully judge his trustworthiness. Serperior are a bit picky that way.

He kept his tone light and leaned his head on Gold’s arm, tail coiling loosely around him. There, no cause for worry! Or at least, Serperior hoped.

"(Oh, no, Elio is aware of it too,)" Umbar says, his smile turning a bit melancholy. "(But human children's hearts are complicated, and simply explaining a misunderstanding isn't always enough to solve problems. In fact, it even caused new problems, in this case... The gulf between the two of them can only be crossed by the two of them, and we can only watch and hope for the best, even if it's painful. But...)" And Umbar's smile brightens. "(I think your master's helped Gold a lot, so I'm sure he can do it.)"

Umbar can come across a bit sketchy or untrustworthy sometimes, and honestly, he's more than fine with that. He thinks of that as one of his charming qualities! A Legendary Pokemon's got to be a little bit mysterious, after all. So he doesn't mind Serperior's doubts at all. Besides, better to keep others on their toes so they won't trust Legendary Pokemon in general unconditionally.

Gold, meanwhile, lets out a small "Aww..." when Serperior leans against him and coils his tail around him. Is this a Serperior hug? That's so nice. "Guess you really like my petting, huh? Here's some more!" he says quietly and pets Serperior.

Gold's pretty sure there's something Umbar didn't tell him, but he trusts Umbar with his life, so it can't be anything malicious. Maybe it's something he doesn't want to tell Gold while Trip's still present or something like that. So he'll let it go.

"{He is?}" Serperior repeated, eyes widening slightly in surprise. "{I wonder... my master would normally prefer not to get involved, but... he did seem bothered by it. He might still try to help, although it's unfamiliar territory for my master as well, this gulf those two must cross with their own strength...}"

It was, indeed, a very loose Serperior hug! Trip's not the cuddling sort, so he keeps it loose, but seeing as how Gold is more affectionate, he might make the best of it and coil around even more! As long as it doesn't frighten him, he doesn't really intend to use a Wrap attack, after all...!

"(Hmm... I think it's wonderful that your master is trying to help Gold,)" Umbar says thoughtfully. "(I'm just worried it might be unwanted. Not to mention he's a prideful type of person! If he ends up going out of his way to inform Elio or Gold of this, only to find out they already know, he might feel embarrassed... Children of this age can take that so harshly. Even Gold!)"

Umbar won't directly tell Serperior to look after Trip, or to prevent him from talking to Elio. After all, it's up to Serperior to help his trainer whichever way he chooses to. Umbar will just let him know his thoughts about it and let him decide what's the right thing to do.

Gold isn't worried about being wrapped up at all! After all, he's got Umbar right here. If Umbar isn't stopping Serperior, then everything's got to be fine! He'll hug Serperior with one arm and giggle a bit. It's kind of comforting being wrapped all around, and Serperior's cool leaf-scaley shin is an interesting texture. He just wants to keep petting and feeling the scales with his hand.

"{That's certainly true... then, I should probably tell him there's no need. I will do my best. Thank you for thinking of them both.}"

Serperior's very proud of his scales! And he loved being pet, so he didn't mind it one bit, it was nice being around someone more affectionate.

But at hearing Trip sigh and shift, starting to wake up again, Serperior loosened his tail, wanting to return to his trainer, but nuzzled Gold's cheek gently first.

"(There's no need to thank me. I'm just doing my best to help keep up their relationship. After all, friendship is the most powerful force in the universe! Or so they say,)" Umbar says with a smile, partially joking. But he quiets down when he notices Trip starting to wake up.

Gold quiets down and stands still too, hoping his giggling didn't wake Trip up. But he does nuzzle Serperior back with his cheek!

"{I wonder about that...}" Serperior replied, with a bit of an ironic tone and smirk, mirroring his trainer, but then left Gold's side to climb and coil up at the foot of the bed, tucking his nose under Trip's hand, after which Trip smield faintly and nestled back into bed.

In the end, it seemed, Gold's bed was taken over by the boy and his Serperior, who turned the visit into an impromptu sleepover.

Well, between Trip, Serperior, and the plushies, Gold's not going to fit in that bed anytime soon. As the setting sun from the window dyes the room a warm red, he takes a moment to just look at Trip, sleeping peacefully, and smiles.

He's fine with this.

He reaches over to gently pull a blanket over Trip, then quietly leaves the room, heading to let Professor Banyan know Gold needs somewhere else to sleep tonight.

As he heads downstairs, making sure to avoid the creakier stairs, he remembers how awful the idea of Elio sleeping in Gold's room felt to him, and wonders why it doesn't bother him at all to have Trip taking his bed over.

"It's just different, I guess," he mutters to himself, then goes to find the Professor.
