[Ulsai, Ultern natives and drifters alike! It's a rather lovely day today, and it seems you're being joined by a boy with a surprisingly faded blue coat and his vivid pink partner. The two of them look around almost confused, really, as they just seem to appear near the Gateway Port and look...well, deeply confused, for both of their parts.]
...Oh, dear. Gorebyss, this doesn't look anything like we were told about Paldea, does it?
Gore... [The pink fish seems to shake her head, eyes drooping a bit before Calem reaches out to pet her on the head.]
Hey, don't worry about it. Why don't we see what this island has to offer? Maybe we'll find some inspiration to strike us up here, too! And a few snacks for you?
[The Gorebyss seems to perk up at that--mostly at the mention of snacks. That'll bring the two of them further into town at least, if you want to talk to them there.
Of course, you can also find Calem doing a couple things here and there--you can find him at the Turnbloom Market where he seems to be checking out any stalls that might have good clothing materials for sale. Threads, fabrics, tools, he's looking at everything, and if you happen to be around, he might look to you and smile.]
Excuse me. I'm just having the hardest time trying to decide on what I should get...might I ask for your assistance in picking out some fabrics for me? I'm always in the market for a second opinion, especially when I'm so unfamiliar with the fashions in this place!
[He's definitely friendly and animated enough, at least, and the Gorebyss beside him seems to regard you too. Feel free to throw something at him!
Otherwise, you might just find him in the Battle Park where he's...doing anything other than battling--Gorebyss seems to be over picking on some of the bug types for fun, but he seems to be looking at anyone around and sketching into a sketchbook? Huh. If you wanna see what that's about, feel free.]

[Once Calem gets settled in, though, he--and a fair few of the rest of his team, from the looks of it, decide to set out for Gilterrace, but seem to decide to take a more inspiring scenic route first.
And inspiring it is. Calem seems more than apt to be distracted by the beautiful flowers growing along the path here than anything else, trusty sketchpad out and putting ideas to paper in an instant.]
Ah, flowers like these...it almost reminds me of home.
[Of course, if you happen to spot him in the evening, it seems he's set up camp for the time and is making a few things for himself and his Pokemon; if he happens to see you, though, he'll wave over to you.]

It's when he sees that small bit of snowflakes that Calem starts, but once he actually sees who's watching...well, his expression can't help but soften at the little ice cream Pokémon that's decided to appear.]
Well, hello to you as well! Were you wanting to take a look?
[He'll get his nose out of his notebook a bit and position it so that Vanillite can see; there's many different flowing garments here, but there's also a fair amount of sporty wear and casual wear as well litering the pages. Seems like Calem's trying to go for something sporty while also trying to consider the region's style...
As for Trip himself, well...Gorebyss seems to have gotten bored of bullying the bug types and is sizing up potential new fun to go against--that's when her little eyes spy Trip, and now she's curious. Just who is he out training today?]

[Its eyes sparkled at seeing all of the pretty drawings, even if it couldn’t quite make sense of them! It just knew they were pretty. It also thought Trip might like to see them too and glanced back.
Trip, meanwhile, stood with only Lampent floating by him now.
“… can I help you?” Trip asked Gorebyss.
They had to find Vanillite before it got too lost, too…]

[Gorebyss, meanwhile, perks when addressed and sizes up both Trip and the Lampent, from the looks of it. Seems like she wants a fight, but...well, given the way she sort of sighs, she might not have her heart into it.
Still, she'll look to Trip and tilt her head. What are you looking for, you seem to have lost something, sir.]

Trip looked a bit annoyed, but at least the Gorebyss didn’t seem eager to disrupt their search.
Lampent explains to Gorebyss that they’re looking for Vanillite.]
We should get back to searching, Vanillite’s got a lot of energy.
[Well, it seems he understands Lampent well enough, even if Gorebyss is more of a mystery! Join them on the search?]

Gorebyss listens, though, and just kind of gives them both a silly look. That's when she looks to Lampent, at least--oh, do they mean that little Pokemon who's bugging her trainer? She's seen a little twirp around him, she's pretty sure.
And that's when Gorebyss decides she's gonna get her trainer's attention the best way she knows how.

By proceeding to shout loudly enough that it actually startles Calem from where he is--]
--Ah, Gorebyss?! [He looks to Vanillite, apologetic.] Excuse me for a moment..
[Trip can see that she looks so. So smugly satisfied. She knows her stupid human entirely too well. But yes, she'll gladly join the search and perhaps even lead the way, just kind of floating along and over as Calem goes over to see...]
Gorebyss, what has-- [...He looks at least a little unimpressed when he sees that smug expression, and just kind of sighs, looking to Trip if he hasn't just up and left.] Pardon--er, sorry, about her. I hope my partner hasn't caused any problems for you?

It wasn’t even in any pain or danger? Was it calling for help? What was the point… he continues his search, a little grumpier than usual (not a very percievable change, really.)
And then, they meet Calem! Is that who Gorebyss was calling?]

[Vanillite wanted to look at the pretty pictures some more, so it followed Calem closely, even as he excused himself!
Trip sees Vanillite float up from behind him and immediately reaches over to hold it high in his hands.]

...Sorry about that. [He has to actively refrain from using a more refined speaking manner--the guy looks young, no need to draw attention.] My partner can be a bit of a handful sometimes; she was probably looking for a battle and decided to bug you...
[Still, Calem looks over when Vanillite floats beyond him, surprised.]
Oh, is this Vanillite yours? [Calem manages something of a chuckle at that.] Your partner was quite a nice listener, I must say.

Yeah. Vanillite's easy to talk to, even if it wanders off sometimes.
[That means a lot for someone usually very quiet! Vanillite makes no protest at either half of that description, smiling away while being held in place! But it soon starts reaching out to Calem, or rather, to where his sketchbook was.]

Meanwhile, Calem just kind of. Looks at Trip, a little shocked, looks to Gorebyss, and back to Trip--]
Are you sure? Gorebyss tends to not know her own strength sometimes; I've plenty of Potions if your partners get hurt, but...if you are willing to oblige her, I think she'd be happy with that.
[Calem looks over to see Vanillite reaching out again, and for a moment, he seems lost...until he chuckles and remembers.]
Oh, dear. You want to see my sketchbook again? I don't know if I have too much more to show you, little guy... [Calem looks to Trip at that.] Your partner here came by to take a look at some of my sketches--I only wish that I had more of my other sketchbooks with me, but I think those were on the boat I was taking to Paldea...

[Vanillite happily floated to Calem’s sketchbook when Trip released it, but puffed up its cheeks and pouted when called a “little guy.”]

You’re an artist? Sorry you couldn’t bring your sketchbooks… I hope they’re kept safe until you get them back. [Trip hated the idea of losing his photographs, which is what he imagined losing the sketches must be like.]

But yes, Gorebyss is...well, she wound up coming to me over a trade from far away, you see. She'd barely left her shell when she was given to me, but after making sure she was alright, we've been inseparable ever sense. And she's quite fond of fighting, unfortunately...
[he loves his girl. she is such a menace to society.]
My sketchbooks should be fine, though...I am hopeful, at least. I'd hate to lose some of my fresh ideas from before I set out to Paldea, but I suppose this means I'm going to have to fill this one up to make up for it.
But yes! Or, well, sort of. I'm a fashion designer; I worked under Miss Valerie as an understudy and gym trainer!
[Calem will gladly open up his sketchbook to show off a little bit, though; seems like these pages were pretty in progress, but seem to contain some ideas for incorporating Ultern fashion into his own sense of style, with Kalos, Johto, and Kanto elements mixed throughout.]

[Vanillite spun happily around again and giggled, happy to be considered lovely. Serperior, who typically acted like praise was all well-deserved and entirely expected and had no effect on him looked surprised and even a bit shy. Just a bit. It was easy to miss, as it amounted to little more than a surprised blink and a flash of confusion, before its usual stoic expression returned.]
Gorebyss was also very kind and helpful in finding Vanillite. Give her my thanks, Calem sir.
[A bit of... a high-handed manner of speaking (so, Calem has nothing to worry about if he wants to speak in a more refined manner), but it's said with a very genuine smile there and he did address Calem very respectfully, for being older than him.]

[Gorebyss preens even more at that; once Trip is done, though, Calem will start to pack up with a bit of a bow.]
Do forgive us for taking up so much of your time today, but...I do hope we'll meet again soon. Perhaps I can try to see if Gorebyss can rein herself in a bit so we can have a proper battle.
