[MINI EVENT] ☆T A N A B A T A☆

Those from the four regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh will be very familiar with the sight of bamboo stalks that are left outside decorated with colorful and sparkly paper decorations. There are people gathering around, helping one another put up paper amulet of varying colors to tie around the bamboo branches. On each amulet is a single wish that’s been handwritten by someone.

One can only hope that their wish will be heard…

At night, there’s a surprise to be found: an alternate colored Jirachi is out dressed in what’s clearly a handmade costume. Around its neck, is a colorful paper chain made of sparkly origami paper.

Not only has Jirachi come to grant wishes, Miniors are out and about bright and colorful. They’ll be dancing around seemingly trying to invite people to come join them in the festivities.

((OOC: Happy Tanabata! In the morning is a general mingle post. But as the evening sets in and Jirachi appears, it will start granting the wish written on your amulet whether big or small -- wealth, a long life, or maybe a way to return home. You're free to catch Miniors too, and there's a slightly better chance of encountering a shiny one as well. Just be careful of the ones still in their shell or you might just get a rather explosive surprise...

This event can take place at any town, so feel free to specify a location!))

It is just a matter of applied geometry!

[don't worry about it]

From there, all you have to do is fold the rest in, to form the pointed sides.

[Volo folds the rest of the paper strip with uncertain hands, constantly glancing at the finished one that Turo made before, to make sure he's doing it right. As he's folding, he repeats one of Turo's words slowly. ]

Yes...geometry...

[He does know what geometry is, though he can't easily draw a line between what he's doing now, and what he learned as a child.

The end result is nowhere near as neat as Turo's, but it's some kind of star. Volo thinks it's not bad for a first try, and he looks pleased with himself.]

There! I must ask, sir - is this something you invented? For you seem very wise! Or is it a recognised art form already? What do you call it?

No, no, I'm no artist. I suppose this is just a simple form of origami! That is the art of paper folding that originated in Johto and Kanto. You can use it to make far more complex paper sculptures, but I have never researched it extensively.

[let him just download some more tutorials from the island internet though and watch out!]

Origami. That's new to me! Do you come from Johto or Kanto...?

[Volo starts making another little star, just to prove to himself that he really knows how to do it now, and it wasn't just a fluke.]

Have you ever tried to make anything else? The library here has a lot of books, you know...I wonder if they would have a book about origami...with some pictures and instructions...

[Volo hasn't reached the stage of learning about the Internet yet. Or even computers.]

Oh, no. I'm from Paldea. This is just something I've seen.

[Only once or twice, admittedly. But with a memory like his, that's enough.]

They may! Paper cranes are a very popular origami creation - I believe I could make one of those as well. There are certain to be a number of video tutorials.

Paldea! The former empire...?

[Volo seems to have briefly forgotten that he travelled forward in time when he drifted to Ultern, and the stories he read about the Empire of Paldea back in Hisui were already quite dated.

Considering that the guy he's talking to looks very modern, to say the least, he might have found that to be a strange comment. Too late, Volo has already opened his mouth...]

I still don't know exactly what a video is, but if they can teach beautiful things like this, they sound very useful!

[That comment probably didn't help, either...]
