Those from the four regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh will be very familiar with the sight of bamboo stalks that are left outside decorated with colorful and sparkly paper decorations. There are people gathering around, helping one another put up paper amulet of varying colors to tie around the bamboo branches. On each amulet is a single wish that’s been handwritten by someone.

One can only hope that their wish will be heard…

At night, there’s a surprise to be found: an alternate colored Jirachi is out dressed in what’s clearly a handmade costume. Around its neck, is a colorful paper chain made of sparkly origami paper.

Not only has Jirachi come to grant wishes, Miniors are out and about bright and colorful. They’ll be dancing around seemingly trying to invite people to come join them in the festivities.

((OOC: Happy Tanabata! In the morning is a general mingle post. But as the evening sets in and Jirachi appears, it will start granting the wish written on your amulet whether big or small -- wealth, a long life, or maybe a way to return home. You're free to catch Miniors too, and there's a slightly better chance of encountering a shiny one as well. Just be careful of the ones still in their shell or you might just get a rather explosive surprise...

This event can take place at any town, so feel free to specify a location!))

Yes, I am very excited!

[Volo is talking too loudly, but it's true: he is excited about the prospect of his lifelong wish being fulfilled!

He glances at his multiple wishes taking up space on the bamboo, but although he briefly wonders whether he's being selfish by adding the same wish so many times, he doesn't feel guilty. Even so, he looks a bit apologetic as he turns towards the girl who spoke to him.]

I have never experienced Tanabata before. I suppose I don't really understand the rules, so I just thought - the more wishes I write, the more chances that they will ber seen! Or perhaps the wish-granter will see how very sincere I am! Does it not work like that...?

I wouldn't know, it's not exactly my expertise. Especially considering the metaphysical differences with my own home, at least indicated by nobody knowing what a fossil god is. But you really want to meet the Streamer?

[Volo shakes his head lightly. He's already gotten to grips with a lot of things, being pulled into a totally different time and environment like this. But, whenever it seems like things are starting to make sense, something else comes along to confuse him!]

Is that another title for Arceus? I know that it has many, but I have never heard of that one! I confess, I am also unfamiliar with the idea of fossil gods. Are they creations of Arceus, too?

Yes! Well, to both, where I come from. "The Streamer" is a common epithet of Arceus back home, because it controls the spacetime stream, the same one we drifted in through. And the fossil pantheon are common to worlds and timelines I've seen before, but apparently don't seem to exist in others, so the sample size I was exposed to earlier must have been too small or otherwise biased. Oh, but that just makes learning about this more interesting!

Hmm...I suppose that title does make sense, when you explain it like that. I just wasn't expecting to hear a new term for Arceus since...well, other than my own people, I wasn't aware that anyone else knew of Arceus at all.

And these...fossil gods? What part do they play? I know of various beings that have been termed 'gods', but none that are fossils, or associated with fossils...

Oh! Well, you see, in places that do have the fossil pantheon, our gods are ancient and whenever they die, they can be revived. So they usually take the forms of beings that lived long ago. They always come in matched sets of opposites -- order and chaos, isolation and connection, speech and silence, life and death. That kind of thing.

[Yeah, Volo has no idea what to make of this! He'll just gawp in silence for a few seconds.]

But...you...also have Arceus? Can Arceus die? And what about...Dialga, Palkia, Giratina...? Do you know them? Are they considered fossil gods, or not?

I've heard of them, but never encountered them in person. They might be their own thing, because they aren't part of the fossil pantheon. Theology is a complicated field even under normal circumstances! As for your other question, I've never heard of Arceus dying. It might just be eternal. Of course, one can't prove something conclusively true, only conclusively false.

Yes, I think I see what you mean. To find out if Arceus can die, I would have to try to kill Arceus.

[Volo laughs, though it's a short and humorless laugh, the kind that leaves it unclear whether he was joking or not...]

Not what I meant, but technically, I suppose...

[Very, very awkward look.]

I have, for some of them. Lord Dome is my patron. Dome is our god of order, law, organized sport, and democracy. And in a place like I was in when we made the contract, we needed order.

Patron...? You...you have a patron deity? And you've met this Lord Dome? Heh, that's...quite something. How does one end up in a position like that?

[Volo looks pained and swallows a lump in his throat, though he still tries to smile.]

That seems an interesting collection of things to be the god of, though I suppose I can see the connection between organised sport and order!

It's a... long and somewhat distressing story that involved existential threats to the region and an otherworldly hivemind that doesn't know how to walk straight without running into walls. But are you okay? You look significantly distressed for a holiday.

[For one very weird moment, Volo thought that she might be talking about him. After all, he'd been an 'existential threat', once upon a time. But, no, it couldn't be. They're clearly from different worlds. And Volo doesn't even know what a 'hivemind' is. He never saw Giratina running into any walls, anyway.]

Well, that does sound like quite the tale. I wouldn't mind hearing it!

Pay no heed to me, though. I shall try not to look so glum. You see, I dearly wish to meet Arceus. So, I suppose I got a little...jealous...? A terrible word, but - yes, jealous, over the idea that you had managed to meet one of your gods. But, we are not talking about the same thing, not at all...so I understand that there is no need for me to be jealous!

[Okay, but Giratina as a TPP host is a hilarious mental image.]

You never know what the future will bring! With that kind of dedication, maybe you will get to meet Arceus one day. Besides, there are all kinds of strange phenomena that happen right here in Ultern, and instances where powerful and mysterious Pokémon come to visit!
