[MINI EVENT] ☆T A N A B A T A☆

Those from the four regions of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh will be very familiar with the sight of bamboo stalks that are left outside decorated with colorful and sparkly paper decorations. There are people gathering around, helping one another put up paper amulet of varying colors to tie around the bamboo branches. On each amulet is a single wish that’s been handwritten by someone.
One can only hope that their wish will be heard…

At night, there’s a surprise to be found: an alternate colored Jirachi is out dressed in what’s clearly a handmade costume. Around its neck, is a colorful paper chain made of sparkly origami paper.

Not only has Jirachi come to grant wishes, Miniors are out and about bright and colorful. They’ll be dancing around seemingly trying to invite people to come join them in the festivities.
((OOC: Happy Tanabata! In the morning is a general mingle post. But as the evening sets in and Jirachi appears, it will start granting the wish written on your amulet whether big or small -- wealth, a long life, or maybe a way to return home. You're free to catch Miniors too, and there's a slightly better chance of encountering a shiny one as well. Just be careful of the ones still in their shell or you might just get a rather explosive surprise...
This event can take place at any town, so feel free to specify a location!))

[Gooold! (and it's fine, take your time!!)]
Besides that, now, why did that irreverent tone and eagerness to get filthy rich sound so familiar...? Holding the paper amulet close, he turned expectantly in the direction it had blown away from, hoping to see a friend...
The boy in the wind, wearing an unfamiliar yukata, was still easily recognizable as the friend Gold, but for a moment, Trip only stood still, unmoving, only watching, almost as if it weren't wind that flowed between them, but the dividing river of the Milky Way.
no subject
No, set aside the thoughts of a river of stars flowing through the bamboo. More importantly, was this even the same Trip? The boy had turned around to stare back at Gold, looking the same as ever, but just as wordless as Gold. Was he thinking the same thing as Gold was, or was he just surprised by a random kid staring at him?
As the silence stretched, and the uncertainty remained, Gold felt like he had to be the one to make the first move. He raised his hand slowly in a mimickery of a casual wave.
"Hey man what's good," was probably not how Hikoboshi would greet Orihime after their long separation, but that's what came out of Gold's mouth.
[if he could hear that internal monologue, Trip'd be all: okay, first of all, I am a *prince*--]
Trip hadn't realized his breath had been caught in his throat the whole time, until Gold's incredibly casual greeting blindsided him. He burst into laughter.
"W-wha... was that?!" Trip laughed incredulously, trying to contain it, clamping a hand over his mouth, and failing to supress it at all.
Sure it was Gold, Trip ran over.
Incoming, Gold, a very rare hug from Trip, even if it consisted of tying his arms around Gold's shoulders while leaning forward, to minimize how much of them were in contact! But it was still a hug, and he might even bury his face in his shoulder too.
[Gold decided to go with "prince" to be nice]
Or maybe not, Gold briefly thinks when Trip comes up to him with a hug. Trip doesn't do that. But the lack of contact, even while hugging, is familiar, so after a slight freeze, Gold hugs back lightly, not tightening the space between the two in the slightest.
He'd thought a lot what to do if he ever met Trip again, but in this moment, it feels like all that has just faded away. He's not even mad at him for leaving anymore. He's just glad to have him back, without even wishing for it. Maybe it's just for a day, for holiday magic, but he'll take it.
"It's a greeting," Gold finally answers Trip's question, smile clear in his voice. "You don't got those in Unova, Weaving Prince?"
[it's appreciated!]
"Hmm, does that make you the Miltank herder?" Trip asked in a light, teasing tone, tilting is head, clearly unoffended and even playing along.
His partner Pokemon's the Regal Pokemon, after all! Trip fashioned himself a prince, so it wouldn't bother him. Now, if he'd called him a princess, he'd be annoyed, but with this... his tone is playful and light.
"I get them more now than I used to, but not usually like that, no."
Although, it's pretty close to Shamus! That was another guess!
"So, how've you been?" Trip asked, placing his hands in is pockets. "Have you been in Ultern all this time? Or did you get to go back yet?"
no subject
Now that the hug's over, Gold looks over Trip to see if he's changed any since the last time he saw him. Gold himself hasn't changed much, except maybe gaining a darker tan and some muscle after working.
"Nope, Ultern hasn't let me go home! It sucks!" Gold says with a smile because he'd rather not be annoyed right now, then shrugs. "It's been alright I guess. Normal life."
Other than the whole random brother showing up thing that should've happened by now and probably went badly but Gold is ignoring it for now."What about you? How's it going?""Oh yeah, and that's mine," Gold says, pointing at the amulet Trip picked up earlier, and holds out his hand for it.
[oof, it didn't go well? ;_; + no magpie Pokemon (yet), so Murkrow's the next best thing!]
That really was... surprising. It really did seem to fit, maybe he was starting to think it was just the festival making him think of the story, but... maybe they really were just brought back together to meet on this day, like the legend.
He looked sympathetic at Gold not getting to go home yet. "Sorry... it's been a really long time, hasn't it? I didn't really expect it when I get taken back, maybe they'll surprise you too."
He looked at the paper amulet in his hands, then passed it back to Gold, carefully, not to let the wind carry it away again.
"It's pretty windy, so it probably won't rain today... that's good, so they can still meet."
He sounded a bit too serious, saying that, so smiled and tilted his head. "Well, so the story goes, right? The Murkrow couldn't fly and make a bridge of their wings in the rain, so they'd have to wait another year, if it rains. But they'll still, always, wait for each other."
He wondered why Gold didn't wish to meet his family, then, or other loved ones... he briefly regretted already having made his wish... but it seemed like his had already been half-granted. Maybe if he went back and removed it, he could write another wish, for Gold's sake? Could that be done? Or would that be rude or greedy...?
"If you haven't tied it yet, do you think maybe... writing another wish could work? Maybe you're being given another chance to write one. Like... going home or meeting your family..."
[no clue if it'll go well or not yet! + more parallels]
"Yeah, maybe! I'm waiting for it. But hey, the longer I stay here, the more I can surprise dad with my farming skills back home!" Gold grins. He's just trying to look at the positive side. It's hard to be too negative right now.
Gold accepts the paper amulet back and smooths it out, even though it's not even wrinkled.
"Yeah, I bet they get to meet this year," Gold says.
As if on cue, a flock of Ulternian Murkrow land nearby. One looks at Gold and caws, and Gold waves to it.
"Hey, it's you guys! Haven't met you since... Since I met the little Trip! Staying busy?" They caw, and Gold laughs. "Yeah man, keep it up, make that bridge!" Then he turns to Trip with a more serious look. "It's not even a coincidence anymore. We're in that fairy tale for real right now, man. I mean, Your Majesty, since you're apparently a real prince."
He doesn't seem too concerned by that, though. If something in his life was pre-destined by a legend, it makes sense that it'd be meeting Trip.
Gold listens to the suggestion, looking down at his amulet, then shakes his head with a smile.
"Nah, I don't wanna waste my wish on those." That's not quite the right wording, and Gold pauses to try and articulate himself. "Umm... It's like, I don't wanna get false hope? I wanna wish for something less... important and more impossible. So if it doesn't come true I'm not disappointed and if it comes true I know it was really the wish that did it."
[oh, nooo... and now, an admission]
"Yeah, maybe that's what you're here to do, right now..."
Trip looked surprised by the cawing Ulternian Murkrow, but seeing Gold seemed to be on friendly terms with them, he didn't seem too worried about them. ... but really, right after mentioning them? It truly did feel like being in a fairy tale. He almost feared he'd simply wake up and none of this had happened.
He couldn't help but snap a picture or two, of the settled flock of Murkrow, but also, of Gold in the foreground.
He looked a bit flustered by being addressed that way, but then looked sympathetic to Gold's statement.
"Yeah, that... makes sense. You should tie it up, then," he said quietly, then asked, "I took a picture to make sure I hadn't dreamed it... is that okay? ... I don't really talk about it, but you know, Trip's a nickname, back home. It means 'triple'... it means I'm the Third of my name, it's the same as my father's and grandfather's. So, the suffixes and nicknames are how we know who we're talking about. Don't really use the formal name."
So, yes, like reginal numbers for old-timey royalty in the western regions, please don't make fun of it!
[an excuse to use my halloween icon again!]
(He's reminded of the first time Trip took a photo of him, that day when Gold invited him to his room in Professor Banyan's house. To be honest, that moment still felt more magical than this, despite everything.)
"Yeah, it's fine. You can take a picture of me anytime," Gold says, and goes to tie up his amulet. While he's doing that, he listens to Trip's admission.
"So you've got a secret name you never use? Prince Something-Something the Third? That's kinda cool. Like Lord of the Rings or something." He tests to see if the amulet's properly attached and won't fall. Satisfied, he steps back.
[oh, that's versatile!]
Gold's definitely more like a fairy tale princess right now, yes. Trip's happy to hear Gold's fine with pictures, he could take candid shots, too, then.
Well, saying it's kind of cool is infinitely better than making fun of it!
"Basically," Trip said, although it wasn't like some sort of conspiracy. "Minus the royal title. It's just a family name... but I guess it being something to signify status with makes it exclusive, in a way..."
Just not in a very interesting way.
Curiously. "You've watched it? I didn't expect that..."
Gold seemed a bit... deprived of a lot of typical experiences, so he wasn't expecting that, not to mention, it wasn't something he thought Gold would be interested in back in Johto! Speaking of Johto...
"Did you celebrate this back home? I'd only ever read about it, more here, than back home. It's not really something we do in Unova..."
no subject
"Huh, so your family's like, super rich then," Gold muses. He knew that already, of course, but if just Trip's secret true name is a status symbol, he's got to be even more loaded than he imagined. Hmm. He takes a moment to consider Trip, but... Nah, he doesn't want to marry rich that badly. Forget it.
"Watched it?" Gold asks. "No, I read it. Did they make a TV show about it or something?" Yep, his childhood is as atypical as ever.
"Yeah, sometimes we had these bamboo back in New Bark Town. I didn't really know anything about it, but I wrote a wish every year. Never really came true though," Gold says, looking up at the sky and the bamboo leaves fluttering in the wind above them. He gave up on writing the things he truly yearned for years ago and started writing in the same stupidly impossible one he wrote today.
