Ohritori Vacation!
[This morning, if you tune in to Ken's Pokemon Talk on the radio, you'll probably hear him announce the program will be on break for the next two weeks while he goes on vacation! And as soon as the program ends, he hops on a boat and is off to Ohritori Island.]
A. GATEWAY PORT
[You can see him arriving at Gateway Port in Turnbloom City, looking pale as he weakly hobbles off a boat and immediately falls onto his knees and hands on the pier, taking deep breaths and looking like he's been suffering from seasickness for the entire journey.]
It's finally over...! Ohritori Island, I'm so glad to see you...
B. POKEMON CENTER
[Once he's rested from his journey, he'll be sitting at the cafe in the Pokemon Center with an ice tea, glancing around somewhat restlessly. A green Ledyba is sitting at his table, eating Berry slices. Spotting you, Ken will smile and wave.
Excuse me, can I ask you a question?
C. ROUTE 1
[Later, Ken can be seen at Route 1 with his Cubburn. He'll find Professor Banyan's laboratory, he'll just wander near it for a while, glancing at the house sometimes like he's trying to gather the courage to approach. Eventually, he'll go up to the door, raise his hand to knock... then hesitates, lowering his hand again. His Cubburn looks up at him with a whine, and Ken sighs.]
I'll do it, just give me a moment...
D. WILDCARD
[Ken can also be seen wandering all around Ohritori Island during his vacation! He doesn't visit the more dangerous places deep in the caves or the forests, but he'll be checking out the tourist spots. Theater Hall, Stardust Beach, the different farms on Gilterrace Town, Route 2 and Route 3; and the Wildflower Cape. Meet him however you want! Also, feel free to recognize his voice from radio!]

Yeah, it's good. Maybe you should've ordered it too?
[He's teasing.]
[drat, Ken's not as indulging, PFFT]
He would'a shared with me. [It's definitely whiny, but lighthearted.]
Well. Maybe not share a drink, but... he might'a gotten me one extra.
[He called over a waiter for a drink like Ken's.]
no subject
Sorry man, not into indirect kisses.
[Ken says that off-handedly, then sips his drink, and then it occurs to him that maybe that joke's crossing a line? ...Maybe if he just continues casually eating and drinking it'll be fine.]
Who's he anyway, Bashou?
[If there's a reason Buson's not saying the name out loud, it flies above Ken's head.]
no subject
That received a very sharp glare.]
... they know who I am, they don't know him.
[But, Bashou had said he didn't care... not here, where the codename and Team Rocket weren't known... Buson was just too protective of anything relating to his partner. The cutting look wavered, then, he looked apologetic.]
... sorry.
I just don't want him in any trouble when only I deserve to be in any, here. Nobody knows what he is, here.
no subject
But that soon gives way to slight annoyance over the needless glare.]
I didn't know, alright? Could you not assume I know who you're talking about and what you're thinking without you telling me? Maybe he can do it, but I'm not him.
[Earlier, Ken didn't mind Buson complaining about how he's not like Bashou, but now it's struck a nerve.]
no subject
I… had been doing that, hadn’t I?
You’re right. I’m sorry.
no subject
Apology accepted. Just don't do that again. It's rude to him too to treat other people like they're replacements for him!
1/2
... I know what you mean. No one else could replace him.
Finding out the differences is actually really interesting and... you're right, it ain't far to anybody. People're different and should be appreciated for themselves.
[He's quiet a moment, thinking of the fact that he now knows two similar, but increasingly different iterations of Bashou, too.]
... what I said earlier, I was just foolin' around, but maybe it didn't land that way. [Bashou would usually share, but that's also because he expects Buson to wind up having more of an appetite for others' food in addition to his own, but he's not trying to impose on Ken.]
... expecting other folks to get me like he does, though, that wasn't intentional. I just spend a lot more time with him, that's all, so I guess sometimes, I take that kinda communication for granted. It wasn't intentional, but I still messed up, so I'm sorry.
2/2
... so, do you have a plan for where you'll go after this? Which places to check first?
no subject
...Yeah, I get it. It's probably hard to... switch gears, I guess.
But seriously though, if you're going to talk about him in a place where you don't want to say his name, can't you come up with a codename? It's awkward to just say "him."
[Also lightening the mood!]
I'll probably ask around here first, and then I'll check out Professor Banyan's lab. If Gold's not there, then at least I might get to meet the Professor! [He grins. He's been hoping to get that opportunity!]

Hun's too obvious if he's known as Attila, so...
Botamochi???Don’t think Bashou would take such a cutesy-sounding nickname from effectively a stranger too kindly.]How about Kitsune? He’s got a fox-like face and he likes azuki.
[
We’re sorry!! Most of them sound like really weird pet names, Ken!So you get a descriptive one. It’s either that or colour names and there’s already enough people here with colour names to make that confusing.]no subject
Kitsune? That's cute! And cool! [He tacks on, in case Bashou would hate being called cute. He's not here, but still!]
Now that I think about it, I've still not met Kitsune in person. But somehow, when I'm talking with you, it often feels like he's present in some way... And yet I still don't know what he looks like! [A little laugh.]
1/2
[That’s a nice way of putting it…]
Yeah… I guess it makes sense. He’s on my mind a lot, even for that nearly half a year apart. I spent so long not talking about him, too… but I missed him.
[Because he didn’t know what Bashou might be alright with him mentioning or not. Loyalty kept him from mentioning him to non-Rockets, but he missed him sorely, so that might’ve only intensified the feeling. It’s fine, now that he knows he doesn’t mind.]
He don’t go out much, but if you see him, you’ll know! He’s beautiful. You could mistake him for a woman, ‘til you hear him speak. Very pale, so he’ll stand out here for sure. Silver hair, blue eyes. I mean fox-like, kind of an elegant, long and narrow face. Long nose. Kind of a proud, aristocratic look about him, usually looks bored. Graceful, even throwing a pokeball..
no subject
[He gestured vaguely with his hands, tracing up-turned Pokemon-like ears atop his head.
Are we sure this isn’t a transformed fox Pokemon after all?]They’re not intentional.
no subject
Huh, he does sound beautiful. Kind of like a Linoone!
[It's a compliment!]

If Ken knows anything about the classic poets of his region
(... or if they even had those stories in common, given how much differed between their worlds), Yosa no Buson the poet lived a hundred years after Matsuo Bashou, but so admired him, he echoed his poetry, traced his footsteps (literally, following Bashou's travel memoir), paid to restore an old hermitage Bashou had stayed at a temple (which had a banana tree, gifted to Bashou by a student of his, which Bashou liked so much he took the name of the tree, Bashou, as his own, and his students took to calling the hermitage "basho-an")... Buson also built a monument to Bashou with his poems there and requested to be buried after his death besides the basho-an.So, their names might be fake, but they're fitting, for the devotion they imply.]
Wow! It's like you know the guy. You got it pretty damned close, if you ever see a guy with hair like a Zigzagoon, 'specially when it's pulled back and starts to get some volume again, that's him.
[It's a... really apt comparison for what Bashou's hair can look like, he's going to be thinking of the Linoone comparison a while, and might be curious to compare them sometime, perhaps in Johto.]
no subject
Wait, a Zigzagoon now? That's a pretty different look!
[Maybe hair like Linoone after it's washed, then hair like a Zigzagoon if it hasn't been washed in a while... That's a fun image! Still, Ken's going to be imagining Bashou as a human Linoone until he actually meets him.]

The clothes he likes to wear are pretty modest, I think you'd like 'em, even when they aren't traditional, they look like they could be, at first glance? Or it's traditional clothes worn differently... [Some kind of neo-classic fashion!]
Hey, y'know, when I first saw you on the docks, I thought you were Ulternian for sure with those clothes! How'd you dress back home?
no subject
[Ken's got some fondness for fashion!]
Oh, yeah, I really like the traditional style around here so I started wearing it. But back home, I dressed pretty modern! Jean vests and sneakers and stuff... But what I really like, both here and back home, are loose clothes that'll let you breathe. My favorite back home was this puffy-sleeved v-neck... I came here wearing that, but it's too hot for the climate so I had to give up on wearing it. I still dig out that outfit on winter though!
no subject
I couldn't have guessed!
no subject
Is it that surprising? I was your average modern guy who followed fashion! But once I got here, with all the styles mingling and people coming from different decades, being "modern" really didn't mean anything! I looked old-fashioned to a lot of people! So I went "screw it" and started dressing however I want. This style's pretty timeless, you know? I let my hair grow, too...
[He reaches back to wrap his hand around his ponytail, lifting it up a little before letting it fall again.]
