this is the run, we are invincible
[The days are here, and the Battle Park is all done up for the show. Banners with a weird shield-like symbol announce the Dome-tide tournament, and everything is organized in an orderly fashion. Everyone who signed up will be directed to their place and given a free water and name tag, and spectators will get a program detailing all the matches and locations.
The prizes are... well, something that a weird nerd would think are good prizes. First prize gets a Nugget, second a bunch of EXP candy, and third and fourth get literally just 30 Ulternian Poké Balls each. She had to be talked out of giving you textbooks.
select your team, b yourself, and have fun!]

[HOW IT WORKS
The bracket was seeded with characters who were signed up on the thread linked above for the month's plotting post! Since there were 10 teams and thus four people would have had to play an extra round, I gave those slots mainly to people who signed up multiple characters. You can find the bracket here with all the results, which were done via RNG.
The matches can be threaded out on the post in their toplevels according to the RNGed results, or can be skipped, depending on player preference. There will be a toplevel for rounds 1, 2, 3, and 4, and another for general spectating.
ICly, this runs on the 12th, but backtags until whenever are fine as always! This is a player-run event, so if you need anything, let me know!]

However, Gold didn't account for two things. That Aino would resist Flying-types and she managed to endure the attack, though "barely" is the keyword here. Not only that, her stomach glowed with electricity.]
Huh. You didn't hold back at all. Guess strategy is out of the window if I want to survive this bout. Aino, use Thunderbolt!
[Her Bellibolt cried out as let out the electricity from her stomach and fired it to the Lugia in an attempt to counter its attack.]
no subject
With electric terrain and Electromorphosis in play, the next Thunderbolt does massive damage, lighting up the whole stage. It's only thanks to his high Special Defense that Umbar manages to hold on and stay conscious, breathing heavily.
Gold's conflicted. Should he recall Umbar and send out another Pokemon? Should he try and finish Aino off? No, there's no choice, he has to stick with Umbar. A stiff breeze could knock the Legendary out now, so recalling him now would just delay the inevitable. Recover wouldn't heal enough, Gust might not deal enough damage, Aeroblast definitely would, but can Umbar even gather the energy for it now? But there's no telling what other Pokemon Juliana will have or what strategies she'll use, so...
"Umbar! Safeguard! You did well, now keep the others safe!!" Gold calls out. (He's not intentionally ignoring Juliana's comments to him and focusing only on his own Pokemon, he's just used to looking out for himself and his Pokemon above all.)
Umbar nods, spreading his wings and emitting a soft shimmering energy from his wings, covering his side of the field in a mystical veil that'll protect him and the other Pokemon after him from status effects. He breathes out, ready to take on whatever Aino's next attack is.

Smart move. Bet you didn't expect this. Aino, Slack Off!
[Her Bellibolt cries in determination...
Then lies down and she yawns before she relaxes. For some reason, it doesn't bother Juliana.
But unknown to Gold, this move heals half of her health, enough to regain her strength for the next attack.]
no subject
"Umbar, let's try one final shot! Aeroblast!"
Though Umbar's tired, a stationary target should be easier to hit, right? He gathers up energy, taking a little bit longer than usual, and blasts off another Aeroblast.
Gold just hopes it's enough to finish Aino off. He doesn't want to charge up her electricity again.
no subject
Oh no... Aino, strike it down with another Thunderbolt!
[Her Electric-type frog did after she got up. But it seems too late as the Aeroblast hits its target and this time, her Flying-type resistance isn't saving her now due to her health still halved.
So while the Thunderbolt flies, the Bellibolt falls to the ground and the referee raised his flag to Gold's side.]
Aino the Bellibolt is unable to battle! Umbar the Lugia wins!
[Juliana groans. Well, she expects that she can't win against a Legendary with her Bellibolt, but at least she got a hit on it if that last Thunderbolt hits the Lugia or dodges it.]
Buen trabajo, Aino. Take a rest.
[She returns her Bellibolt in her Poke Ball before taking out another.]
Not bad, Gold. You managed to overpower her before she can use her Electromorphis-charged Thunderbolt. That's what I expect from a Legendary Pokemon.
no subject
"Umbar!" Gold shouts,wide-eyed, as the Legendary Pokemon goes down, falling into the electric terrain-covered water. "Gah, return!" Gold calls him back into his ball, and smiles at it. "Great job, man."
He puts the Lure Ball away, then looks at Juliana as she talks to him.
"Yeah! Umbar's awesome!" he replies with a proud grin. "All of my Pokemon are! I wouldn't have made it this far without them!"
Obviously, since it's a tournament for Pokemon Trainers...Gold waits for Juliana to throw her next Pokeball before calling his next Pokemon out at the same time.
"Go, Elena!" he calls out, and a Furret materializes, nervously hyping herself up for the battle.
no subject
Yeah. But having a Legendary doesn't mean I can still kick your butt! Let's go, Fueco!
[And out comes her Skeledirge as he sings out to the audience.]
Sorry to be that person, but you're not gonna phase through my first partner. Fueco, use Torch Song!
[Her Fire/Ghost-type Pokemon stood up and with his fire bird from his nose turned into a microphone stand, he sings to the Furret before the stand transforms into a phoenix-like flame being as it charges to their opponent.]
no subject
"Elena, Surf!" he calls out as the Skeledirge makes his attack. "You've got this!"
Elena can't help but be impressed by the singing, but she jumps into the water, creating a huge wave and riding it at Fueco, right through the Torch Song. Though the fire hurts, the water soothes the pain somewhat.
no subject
If it's super effective, that is.]
Yeah, no. Fueco, time to Terastallize!
[Juliana takes out a strange crystal orb that looked like a Poke Ball and once it's charged with strange glow, she throws it to her Skeledirge just as the wave of water hit him.]
Ooh! It's super effective! Looks like Gold doesn't want to keep this battle longer than he wanted.
[Everyone gasps to see her fire crocodile seemingly drowned in the water. But then, as the water disperses, they see Skeledirge is still standing, only that he has a crystal crown with a gem shaped like a ghost.]
No, wait! Skeledirge isn't knocked out yet! And he now has a strange crown and his body looks like crystal! What's going on?!
[As everyone is shocked at this change, Juliana simply grins. Yeah, she's not going to end this battle that easily.]
no subject
"What the heck is that? He turned into some kinda gem and he's got two hats now?!" Gold exclaims.
But he doesn't stay confused for long. The new crown looks like a ghost, and Gold knows normal-type moves don't affect those, so... His strategy won't change.
"Surf again, Elena!" he calls out.
Elena gets over her surprise and jumps into the water, calling up another wave to crash it into Fueco.
no subject
Should she switch out? Fueco's Terastallization will remain, but she feared that Gold would do the same. If she let him stay, she would take the risk of taking another Surf again.
So after a quick thought, she made her decision.]
Fueco, time to Sing!
[Yeah, she chose the risky option. Her Skeledirge would take the Surf, but if his singing reaches to his Sentret, then she might have a chance.]
no subject
"Stay awake, Elena!" Gold calls out, then blinks as he remembers the Safeguard. Oh, right, he'd only been trying to safeguard against paralysis, but it works against sleep too. "Uh, good job!" he adds awkwardly. "Now Surf!"
Elena, who was slightly distracted by the singing, nods and summons a wave, riding it down onto Fueco once again. Will it be enough?
no subject
It isn't long before she sees the Safeguard still surrounding Gold's side. At that point, she realizes one thing.]
Oh, lo arruiné.
[That's all she can say before her fire crocodile is hit with another big wave. Unlike before, it's enough to knock it out as his crown broke and his scaly skin is back to normal.]
Skelidirge is unable to battle! Furret wins!
[Everyone gasps at this while some booed. In her defense, she forgot the Safeguard is still active. If she knew that, she would have immediately used Overheat. She even feels that her Miraidon is shaking its head in dismay at her flub.
Juliana groans at this. She can't believe she made a mistake! Now that her Tera Orb is used up, she knew she has one last trump card in her sleeve.]
So much for my ace. Sorry about that, Fueco. I'll make it up to you later. [She returns her Skeledirge before switching balls. Let's see if I can knock that Furret out of the field.] Pin, use Brick Break!
[Her last Pokemon is a final evolution of Bisharp and it's no surprise everyone gasped to see another new Pokemon. But it didn't waste any time as the shogun-like Steel/Dark-type Pokemon charged in and tries to chop the poor Normal-type with his metallic hand.]
no subject
"Great job, Elena!" Gold cheers.
But then the next Pokemon immediately chops at her, knocking Elena back half across the field. Gold gasps.
"Elena? ...Ah man," he says, shoulders slumping when Elena doesn't get up. He recalls her, then looks at the mystery Pokemon he's up against, eyes sharpening. It's red, but it can't be a fire-type, Juliana wouldn't send another one out immediately after the last one. Based on the edges, steel, maybe? Gym Leader Jasmine from back in Johto was a tough opponent with her steel-types, so Gold has some experience with them.
"Go, Carn!" he calls out, sending out his Meganium. "Razor Leaf!"
Carn bellows as he twirls his neck-flower, sending out razor-sharp leaves to attack Pin.
no subject
But now that she's backed into the corner, she isn't playing games anymore. It's time to get serious. Once she saw Gold take out his Meganium, she knew she have to play smart.]
That's not going to work on Pin. Swords Dance to dodge them!
[His Dark/Steel-type Pokemon twirled around from his "seat" in his attempt to avoid the leaves before a red aura surrounded him. Even if some of them hit him, they can only leave a few scratches on his body.]
no subject
"Keep it up, Carn! Razor Leaf!" Gold yells.
Carn keeps sending leaf after leaf at Pin, filling the air with them!
no subject
Alright, Pin! Now use Kowtow Cleave!
[Kowtow Cleave is a Steel-type move that wouldn't be effective against a Grass-type against Gold's Meganium. However, it makes up for how it never misses and it's boosted with Swords Dance. So big damage by bowing and letting his blade helmet hit his starter with no effort.
Unfortunately, he is reaching his limit as most of the leaves became more critical the more he endures it.]
no subject
"Razor Leaf!!" Gold calls out once again. "You're wearing him down, keep it up!"
Carn, exhausted, barely hanging in there, puts all he has left into this one... last... attack!
no subject
Kingambit is unable to battle! Therefore, the winner is Gold!
[Everyone erupts in cheers with that declaration of that exciting fight. Juliana, on the other hand, groans as she returns her Pokemon to her Poke Ball. Yet she smiles again as she approaches her opponent.]
That was awesome, Gold. I would have won with my other partner on me, but... [She raises her hand for a handshake.] It's an awesome battle anyway. Gracias!
no subject
"We did it, Carn!" he shouts as he flings himself to hug Carn's neck, laughing. Carn lets out joyful shouts too, jumping around with Gold hanging onto him.
When Juliana approaches, Carn calms down, and Gold lets himself down, looking at Juliana with a smile.
"Yeah, I bet you would've won!" Gold says as he accepts the handshake with a firm but not too tight grip. "It was really close! I think I just won by luck!" Carn makes a disappointed noise, and Gold glances back at him, then at Juliana. "I mean, my Pokemon were strong and it was all thanks to them that we won! But yours were pretty cool too. I've never seen Pokemon like those before!"
no subject
Maybe in the next event or battle, we'll have a rematch and go all out. I hope you can make it to the finals, Goldy.
no subject
"Is that your other partner?" he asks. Somehow, seeing a robotic dragon like that just sitting in the stands and watching is funny.
"Yeah, maybe! But maybe I wanna stop while I'm ahead and say you've never beaten me! ...Dunno what that'd accomplish though. But if there's another tournament with prizes then I'll totally join! Oh, and thanks!" He grins, then blinks. "...Goldy?"
People rarely call him by nicknames, so that surprised him.
no subject
[Miraidon roars again as it briefly puffs the throat wheel in pride.]
Yep. But I can still call you "Gold" if you. Good luck in your next battle.
[And she walks off from the stadium. She is disappointed, sure. But at least she got a good battle for the rest of the tournament.]
no subject
"Oh, nah, Goldy's fine I guess? Just surprised me. See you, uh... Julie?" He tries to make a nickname, but realizes it just sounds like he forgot her name. "I mean Juliana! See you next tournament!"
And Gold waves and walks off the stadium, patting Carn on the way back before recalling him into his Pokeball.
